"What's all of that got to do with me?" He asked in confusion.
It's been a long day for them and it was already 2 AM but the both of them were at a café.
He couldn't believe that he heard the whole reason of what was happening right now before him.
Nor did he expect that he will see his secretary get carried away by the police in front of him.
"Lore Beischel was the one who gave proof of Karina's brother's embezzlement. For his help, the former chairman protected your family from danger and they have come to the agreement to keep the connection going through the years. You were turning 19 that year and you weren't showing interest in business but I knew you were gonna be a great CEO in the future. Just like me" the chairman said and smiled.
"So, you were the one who told Ruby to find someone like you?" He asked and the former nodded.
"It's hard to find someone like me, but seeing you made me relieved. How about you? How did you discover my sister?" The chairman asked before sipping on his coffee.
"Ruby barged into my office on a very normal Monday. She was great you know but someone told me to wait for him until he came back to marry a certain lady so it took me quite a while to have the picture painted in my head of marrying her" just then did he remember, who told him that again?
"I told you that" the chairman said and smiled again.
"You did?" He looked at him in surprise. How and why doesn't he remember?
"Surely you were 18 but you were drunk when I told you that. Kinda happy that you remember you know" so he was drunk. No wonder he felt like the memories were quite blurry.
"H-how are you Ruby's older brother? If you don't mind me asking" he was quite nervous to ask but he was really curious.
"Hmmm... Our grandfather died early. None of our aunts and uncles wanted to hold the position since it was supposed to be eldest's part. But since my father was ill and my mother wasn't a Rossworth, they gave the position to me." He nodded at this. The lady have already told him about this part of the story.
"You see, Rossworth's aren't that open when it comes to the public's eyes. They know our net worth but other than that they know noting about us. So when the news of the chairman passing away went out, rumors were running around about our family.
Ruby, was quite an influencer back in the days and it eventually came out that she was a Rossworth. Many speculated that she was an only child because she was spoiled a lot. Then, rumors went around that the chairman had an 'accident' with someone else and then they started speculating that the youngest would be around the generation's age which was me." He scrunched his face at his complicated it sounded but he just proceeded to drink his strawberry shake and nodded.
"There were also quite complicated problems back in the day in which they decided to have people speculating that I was the youngest Rossworth of that generation. We didn't deny it, but we also didn't confirm it. Somehow they knew that I became the chairman though which made them believe their theories even more" though the chairman didn't explain it in detail but he got the idea.
"Your family's quite complicated" he said out loud unintentionally.
"Complicated but prestigious" the chairman said smiling which made while smile too.
"And confident" he said out loud with s tone that was easy to misunderstand.
"N-no I mens like—" he stopped when he heard the chairman laugh. He became more attractive when laughing.
"Indeed. But no one can pass the eldest Beischel's confidence" the chairman joked but it made him stare at the former.
"You know kuya Lush?" The chairman nodded before starting another story.
"Your second brother, Lore was on his last sem for second quarter in Law that time. While I was classmates with your eldest, Lush. No doubt that Lush was older than me but he was born quite late in the year just like you. The three of us hang out and eventually a friend of Lore, Heather joined us too.
It was around November I guess before the year of the issue with Kai happened. Then, Jake came in the picture when he walked in a stall where your second brother was still peeing" he snorted hearing the last part.
Now he had something to tease about the youngest. He laughed to himself.
"Then you, when those events happened. I think we only hang out once, the time where you were drunk. Pretty much everything was settled by then.
When I turned 21 that year, I held the highest position of Rossworth's Industry and so, we didn't talk that much. But I do know that James started to keep in touch with Jake and Heather a week after that" he once again nodded. No wonder why Jim felt like he was always a part of them.
He looked at the chairman's phone when it rang but then proceeded to give him his privacy by looking outside the window and finishing his drink.
"Ruby's awake?" He whipped his head to the chairman when he heard what he said.
"Okay, we'll be there shortly.... Don't tell her yet..." The chairman said and looked at him meaningfully which made while sadly nod.
Right, he had to be strong for Ruby. Out of all of them, she was the one who would be lost the most.
"Let's go" the chairman said after hanging up and stood up.
He immediately followed him while thinking of how to tell the lady when the chairman spoke.
"Just tell it straight to the point. It's gonna lead there one way to another"
