November 2008, Age 14

It was November when my powers as a mermaid were finally fully completed and my first transformation occurred. Fortunately we weren't caught off guard with this one, most specifically Peter. Death had led us out into the preserve only to stop at a strange clearing with a tree stump that gave me an odd feeling. The Nemeton as he called it was apparently connected to near everything but most importantly were the telluric currents that traveled along the majority of Beacon Hills before branching out thinly to meet smaller points that connected all over the world. Death had explained that telluric points much like in my last life generated magical energy few were truly aware of let alone knew the various ways they could be used.

The goblins of Gringotts had used the telluric currents as a means of transportation and a power source for various rituals and wards. Truthfully the telluric currents that ran along most of London and most important Diagon Alley had all converged beneath the bank and it was because of this that despite numerous attempts wizards had never managed to take control of it. The wards held over them were stronger than those of Hogwarts as the currents had powered them for far longer than Hogwarts had existed and only grew stronger with every war that was raged when the goblins sacrificed the bodies of their fallen to strengthen them. The wizards had never even realized that every time they returned the bodies of goblins they had defeated they had made the goblins home that much stronger and with every time they did they became drawn by the magic in the air calling to them, so much so that they eventually built their largest settlements around them.

Currently those currents running underground were overflowing with all that undirected and largely untapped energy. Death said he could only feel three pulls of energy that had occurred within the century, one of which that was flowing constantly had led him to the local vet who was dangerously teetering on the edge of becoming a Darach much as the majority of his line had done before him though not nearly so blatantly and certainly not by becoming involved with both the supernatural and the hunters. From what I could get Death to admit I knew that this Deaton was very much like Dumbledore what with his careful manipulations and facade as one of the unaware mundane. Where as Dumbledore had hidden his plotting behind his eclectic grandfatherly image and his 'greater good', Deaton hid his behind carefully crafted wording and a duty to maintain the 'balance'. Regardless Death had a plan to ensure no one else could abuse its power which only brought us back to the main point, my mermaid heritage and the Nemeton.

"So this is the Nemeton." I state more then ask as I stare at the stump from beside Peter.

"This place is familiar."

"I would assume so considering you and your nephew offered a sacrifice here." Death says.

"Now that I certainly don't have any recollection of." Peter says with narrowed glowing eyes.

"Whether you remember or not changes nothing for it was done." Death tells him a skeletal hand touching along the stump's surface. "Hmm, interesting. Talia Hale never completed the necessary steps to claim Beacon Hills as her territory."

"What are hell you talking about? Beacon Hills has always been Hale territory." Peter growls.

"That may have been true if the Nemeton was not here but she is and because she is Beacon Hills belongs to her and whomever she gives her allegiance. The Hales had a practice of forming that allegiance with her until your sister chose otherwise believing it nothing more then foolishness and leaving both the Nemeton and your pack vulnerable." I grab Peter's hand, squeezing it tightly, and stop him from saying anything that could cause Death to keep silent if he showed any disrespect.
