Chapter Ten
Rose weaved through the air with Anna and Lily. She looked back and was peeved that Damon seemed to be tailing her still. She rolled her eyes and turned back around; focusing on the main goal was to get the Quaffle. The next thing she knew was blinding, excruciating pain that erupted from her leg and seemed to wash over her entire body. Rose let out a yell in pain as she now dangled from her broom, her leg hanging limply beneath her. Her eyes watered and she gritted her teeth from the pain. Rose tried to lift herself up to at least sit back on her broom, but she couldn't swing herself back on, every move she made below her waist moved the broken limb. Her grip started to loosen as she stared wide eyed at the stick and then to the ground. It was a long trip down and Rose scrabbled to get back on her broom. She could see some of the Slytherins laughing and giving each other high fives. Rose glared, a grimace coming across her features. Sweat formed across her brow as she saw her fingertips groping to hold on. Her palms burned and were wet. With no use, Rose's hands slipped from the broom and she felt herself falling through the air. She closed her eyes waiting for the painful impact.
Al was distracted by Lestrange and just as he was about to open his mouth to send an insult flying back, he saw his cousin free falling from her broom. He looked around wildly, hoping someone was near her to catch her as he was at the other end of the pitch and wouldn't reach her in time. Lily and Anna were still fighting for the Quaffle. The only one remotely close was Malfoy.
"Malfoy, catch her!" He hated saying those words and knew they would probably do no good, it was his team who knocked her off anyways, he sped for the falling figure.

Scorpius scowled, after hearing Albus Potter's shout. He didn't have to say it out loud. Didn't he see that he was already on his way? He can't just let Rose fall to the ground. He faintly wondered if someone else was knocked out from his or her broom, would he save that someone as well? Probably yes. If there was no one else to save that person.
He flew toward Rose in a speed of light. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Albus speeding toward Rose as well. But he was too far away to have a chance to actually save her. Finally, Scorpius balanced himself on his broom using his thighs. His hands were reaching up to catch Rose by the arms. There was a strong impact as she fell safely into his arms. She wasn't weighty so he can deal with the slight heaviness and still balance himself. He felt a sudden relief when he caught her.
Scorpius' arms were strong. He was able to handle the impact easily. He looked at her, letting out a sigh of relief. He noticed that her leg was limp. He frowned a little. He looked up and saw Albus nearing them.
"I caught her," Scorpius called out. "Obviously."
Damon reached his side first.
"Awesome catch," he complimented. "Is she okay?"
"I'm not sure," said Scorpius seriously. He softly stared at Rose. Every affection he has for her showing in his eyes. "Rose," he whispered gently. It was the first time he called her by her name. "You're safe now," he whispered in her ear.

Rose kept her eyes shut, bracing for the moment where she would hit the ground. It, however, did not come. Instead she felt herself fall into a pair of strong arms. Instantly, Rose buried her face into the shoulder of whoever had caught her. She felt well supported and safe, a faint scent of something spicy and woodsy filled her senses and calmed her. The soft, soothing voice that whispered in her ear sent chills over her. Rose took a deep breath and shook her head, her eyes still closed.
"I'm dead...I am totally dead." She said, taking a deep breath and shaking her head. Rose finally opened her eyes and looked around her; Al was quickly by her and her savior's side. Speaking of her savior, Rose leaned back and looked up into his face and nearly fell off the broom again. Scorpius had caught her? She looked up into his eyes and was lost for a moment, a puzzled expression washing over her face at the strange look in his eyes and the fact he had actually called her by her first name. A sharp pain ran through her leg and she yelped, her hand gripping Scorpius' arm. She had totally forgotten about the pain that accompanied broken limbs. Through gritted teeth, she was able to manage a few words.
"T-thanks, Scorpius."
Al finally reached Rose and Scorpius' side. He glanced at her leg, which hung at an odd angle, and then up to her cousin and Scorpius. His eyes narrowed at how close they were at the moment. Sure, Scorpius had caught her but he didn't have to be holding her so closely. Lily flew over, finally noticing the accident. Her eyes too took in Rose's leg and the fact Rose was in Scorpius' arms. A small smirk and a glint in her eye overcame her features and she hid it perfectly well. Al cleared his throat and flew closer to the pair.
"Ok, ok, break it up. Thanks, Malfoy, but I can take it from here." He said, reaching over to take his cousin.

Scorpius smiled a little.
She thought she was dead? It's kind of cute. Deep inside, Scorpius thought he'd die from heart attack. He had never worried for anyone's life before. Much less a Weasley. But he can't help feeling that way. Like he can't help himself from saving her. And he didn't regret it. Because if he didn't save her from the fall, he doubted if Albus Potter would make it in time. He also wouldn't be holding her like this. Like she was the most fragile thing in the world. For him, maybe she is.
When she yelped in pain, Scorpius suddenly frowned at her leg. She managed to thank him through the pain. His frown deepened. But he shook his head.
I'll deal with them later, he thought.
He looked at Rose's face, and gave out a crooked smile. "Prepare yourself, Weasle-bee," he told her. "Someday soon, I'll come to collect."
He thought with pleasure what he would ask from her. He took her to the ground, still carrying her. But just then, Albus asked for Rose. The smile on Scorpius' face vanished. He realized how he didn't want to let Rose go, how he wanted to just hold her tight until she feels better. However, he had to take care of something.
When he gently passed Rose to Albus Potter, he said, "Let's continue the fight on the real match, Potter. I know I don't have to tell you but I'll tell you nonetheless." He paused. He looked at Albus with his face very serious and indifferent. "Take Weasle-bee and the rest of your team to the castle. I assure you, you don't want to be around when I talk to my team," he added in a deadly voice.
Scorpius looked as though no one could refuse him.
He waited until all the Gryffindor players have left. Then, he turned to Goyle and Marcus. They were cheering themselves for what they've done. Scorpius gritted his teeth as he watched them. He cannot scold them. He was the one who told them to have fun -- and he knew that their way of fun is being brutal with the Gryffindors. He cannot just hex them too, because he would have to explain why he was so angry. That will only lead to complications. But he cannot just let them go with what they did to Rose. No way in the world he'll let them go as if nothing happened.
"What can you say, Scorpius?" asked Goyle. "We certainly knocked her off from her broom," he added, laughing.
"That was out of line," said Scorpius, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"What was out of line?" asked Marcus, confused. "That dirty blood-traitor deserved what she got."
Scorpius eyes filled with calm rage. He walked toward Marcus with a venomous aura. His blood was boiling from what Marcus said.
"How many times do I have to tell you lads that in this lifetime, you have to keep that irrational thinking to yourselves?" asked Scorpius with gritted teeth. His eyes cold, as he looked at each of them.
They knew that look of Scorpius. It was always their cue to never cross him. Scorpius looked at Goyle, and then at Marcus. They stepped back.
"I'm the only one who's allowed to mess with Rose Weasley. Is that clear to all of you?" he asked, addressing them all.
It wasn't really a request. It was an order. And they knew that.
"Yes, Scorpius," they answered.
No one crosses Scorpius Malfoy. You'd be dumb enough to try. They knew what he was capable of doing. It wasn't fear that made them all follow Scorpius. It was respect.

Rose felt her stomach flip when he called her by his nickname for her. He was the only person to call her that, and though it used to annoy her, she welcomed it from him. It was almost like it was his 'special' name for her that no one else could use. Her head felt dizzy at that moment, her mind a blur and she blamed it upon the intense pain that was becoming even more persistent and creating discomfort. Rose shifted and she tentatively put her arms around his neck to support herself. A faint pink crept across her already flushed cheeks.
"Even if you did just catch me while I was falling and saved me, it all depends on what I have to pay." Rose shot back cheekily, trying to shake off the feelings she was having.
Obviously, Scorpius had been running through her mind a lot lately, but she blamed it on his infuriating behavior. Yet, she had imagined it was his lips she had been kissing a few days ago. Rose's heart did a wild dance. No, she did not fancy Scorpius Malfoy. Perhaps she had just been curious for a moment. Well, if she was curious for only a moment then he probably wouldn't have such an effect on her now. Rose groaned in both pain and frustration. This could not be happening. Rose felt herself leave Scorpius' warm arms and placed into those of her cousins and she missed the close contact they had had for a few moments. Her brown eyes remained on Scorpius even as Al turned to make his way to the castle and up to the infirmary.
Al was muttering things under his breath. He looked down at Rose's leg and felt a pang of guilt.
"I'm sorry, Rosie. I never should have asked you to play against the Slytherins...They're brutal to begin with, I should have known better."
Rose arched an eyebrow at her cousin and she smacked him lightly on the shoulder, frowning.
"Don't be sorry, I said yes. And I can take those Slytherins, really its just a broken bone, nothing to worry about."
They soon came to the infirmary where Madame Pomfrey set to work immediately on the injured Rose. After inspecting the damage, she had left and returned with two goblets of potion which she handed to Rose.
"It's a pretty nasty break, dear, but nothing a little potion can't fix. One for the pain and the other for the mending. I'm afraid for your leg to heal properly; you must be on bed rest. Perhaps an overnight stay."
Rose frowned as she stared down at the two goblets. She was not looking forward to a night alone in the solitude of the infirmary. She sighed and downed the potions, each tasting horrible. Rose shared a conversation or two with Al and the rest of the team before she eventually succumbed to a deep slumber, her petite body spent from the adrenaline that had pumped through her veins and the all around physical and emotional events of the day.

Scorpius was hanging out in the Slytherin Common Room, when Damon sat on an armchair beside the one that Scorpius was sitting on. Scorpius showed no sign that he knew Damon was there. He continued to stare at the dancing flames by the fireplace.
He was thinking about Rose. He doesn't know if she was alright. He wanted to check on her, but the Potters might be there. He certainly didn't want to be caught visiting her. He may have accepted that he's badly infatuated with Rose Weasley. But he's not willing to let anyone know about it. It will create conflicts and complications. And the last thing he wants is to lose the respect the Slytherins have for him.
He sighed.
How did I get to this situation, anyway? he asked himself. Can that silly badgering of ours really lead to these complicated feelings? Was I so inattentive that I wasn't able to prevent myself from having these feelings? I can't think straight....
He groaned and covered his face with his hands.
"It's past curfew," said Damon, out of nowhere. "Madam Pomfrey will probably let me stay at the Hospital Wing tonight if I have a few broken bones."
To someone who's an outsider, they'll think Damon was saying gibberish. But Scorpius understood what he was talking about. He was saying that Rose is probably at the Hospital Wing right now. And visiting hours are over because it's past curfew -- which means that the Potters will presumably at the Gryffindor Tower by now.
In short words, the translation to what Damon said is: You can go visit the Weasley girl now, without fearing someone might see you.
Scorpius smiled a little. "I think it's a good time for me to stroll around the castle, then," he said, standing up. As he passed Damon, he added under his breath, "Thanks, mate."
"Anytime," replied Damon, grinning.
Scorpius made his way to the Hospital Wing. He's a prefect. So he'll have a reason to be wandering around. He'll easily say that he was on patrol that night. On his way, he thought of a reason to tell Madam Pomfrey for visiting Rose. But he can't come up with anything. He's not a relative. He's also not a boyfriend -- much less a friend.
He shrugged. He'll think of something. For now, he just wanted to see if she was doing fine.
When he made it, he paused by the door. He peaked in, searching for an occupied bed. And he found one. He glanced at Madam Pomfrey's office. She was inside. Her door's closed. Scorpius smiled. He quietly pulled out his wand and pointed it at the office.
"Muffliato," he murmured. Sparks went out, and he knew that he won't be heard entering.
He learned that spell from his father. And his father learned that from Severus Snape -- he was once a Headmaster of Hogwarts. Well, he knew the story. Both sides of it, in fact.
He casually entered the Hospital Wing, glancing sideways at Madam Pomfrey's office. He waited for her to come rushing toward him and shove him out. He shrugged when nothing happened. He walked toward Rose's bed. He studied her before sitting on the bed by her feet. Her eyes were closed. He softly pushed the hair covering her cheeks.
Those cheeks. How he badly wanted to touch them. Taking the chance, he caressed it tenderly. It was like what he imagined, soft and warm.
When there was the slightest of movement, he swiftly retrieved his hand from her cheeks. He watched her, waiting to see if she's going to open her eyes.
