Dear Ophelia ,
The universe is quite small.
That is an absurd thing to say , I know , but from the perspective of Muggles - we are no less than the absolute height of irrationality.
Long ago , when I was too afraid to let anyone in on my deepest secrets - I had found unexpected solace in having a concealed companion , who knew what I was going through and would send me letters of comfort , and of course - the needed medications for my loathsome condition.
What I hadn't known was that the sender of the letters was a girl hardly anyone knew , a person so enticing , yet confined to the shadows. Somehow , I came to know that it was you. Only James , Sirius and Peter know about you - no one else.
I received another of your gifts yesterday. There were the usual Potion vials , and a fresh letter and a new journal. The cover was beautiful , made of fine navy parchment with beads of ivory strung across it like a necklace of pearls - and only upon running my hands on it did I realise that it was handmade.
The pages were a beautiful amber , with the corners painted with tiny green leaves and animal figurines. On one page I even found a hand drawn image of a dog , a stag , a rat and ... a wolf. Seems like you know much more than you let on , Ophelia.
It took me sometime , but I now go by the analogy that the universe is perhaps as big as a human fist - just magnified to look enormous. The person I have admired since the beginning of Hogwarts was the person who also cared enough to send me these things.
I must say though , your drawings are beautiful .
I see you drawing them , the tip of your brush gliding elegantly against the canvas , or parchment and creating an imagery so wonderful that it is difficult to believe one's deceiving eyes. Even though I haven't seen them , I know they are alluring - just like your soul and you.
Someday , when I have the courage to talk to you and we are friends or something more - I hope you trust me enough to show me the pictures you draw.
