Dear Ophelia ,

I found you crying in the courtyard today.

You were sitting in the shade of a winsome willow , watching with a faraway look on your eyes as your fingers worked away with a charcoal piece in hand , sketching the outline of the castle enshrouded in mist. I saw tears glistening in your eyes.

I went and sat next to you , desperately trying to ignore the blush that crept up my cheeks from just being in your presence. You looked at me , confused - before speaking in a surprisingly clear voice.

"I'm sorry , did I disturb you ?"

I shook my head , and spoke in sign language - asking what was bothering you. Admittedly , you looked quite astonished when I seemingly enquired such a personal question out of the blue - but you just smiled through the tears and said that everything was fine.

But I saw through it. I was aware of your prevailing sadness , the pain in your eyes that reflected in little , everyday things you did. You were aware that people made fun of you , teased you , bullied you endlessly - but you could never stand up for yourself. You would only try to befriend them - and never realise that they were just laughing at you.

You did realise it , eventually - but not as soon as you made a new friend.

So it might take time for you to open up to me , but I am glad I made an effort at last.

Love ,

Remus
