"I came here for sanctuary
Away from the winds and sounds from the city
I came here to get some peace
Way down deep where the shadows are heavy"
I was so startled from my alarm blaring out the lyrics to Skulls by Bastille that I fell out of bed along with my covers. Not a good way to start off the first day of school.
The first day of senior year starts today. I can't believe I'm already a senior already. I got up and ran to my closet looking at my alarm. 6:10 A.M. 50 minutes till I need to leave for school. I went into the bathroom and brushed my teeth. I pulled my hair out of the ponytail and decided to wear it out. I went back to my room and grabbed a pair of jeans with a white blouse. I went to the bathroom once again and did my makeup. I brushed on my powder and blush. I than put on my eyeshadow. Now came the mascara. I always mess up with this part. I watched my hands as I put it on. After I accomplished this I than applied the creamy pink lipstick onto my lips. I checked to make sure my makeup was good and grabbed my jacket from my room.
As I walked to get my bag from my desk I glanced at myself in the full length mirror. I stopped and looked at my outfit. I thought my outfit was simple but nice enough for the first day of school. My converses and my didn't add any height to my 5'5 frame but I didn't care. I couldn't stop to think about how I've changed. I had let my brown hair grow past my shoulders to my back. I kept running my hands through my hair to make sure I got all the knots out. I don't have braces or glasses anymore which I've been told makes me look really different. Plus my acne was gone and I changed how I dress. I wear mostly jeans now and occasionally I'll wear a dress or a skirt. I'm more athletic than I was before though, since Dimitri made me run with him everyday in New York. At first I had laughed at his idea when he told me I should run with him. It was quite awhile till I finally agreed to go with him after his persistence everyday for a month but after the first day, I started to have fun.
I looked at my M&M clock to see that it was 6:35. I grabbed my bag and my phone off my desk and texted my brother that I was up and about to go eat breakfast. Yesterday he told me before we had left to text him today before I left for school. He goes to Cornell University so me and my mom left him in New York. I guess you could say he was pretty smart.
On my way downstairs I smelt bacon sizzling on the stove. My mom must have decided to get up early to cook breakfast.
"That bacon you're making smells delicious mom" I said as I set my bag down on the counter. I looked at the clock, 6:40 A.M. 20 more minutes till I had to leave. I grabbed a plate from the cabinet and placed a couple of peices of bacon onto my plate.
"I see that you've been busy making breakfast. You even made eggs." I said as I saw the plate of eggs beside the stove. I grabbed some of the eggs and sat down at the island. The eggs and bacon were amazing. As I ate, I kept glancing at the clock to make sure I wasn't late for my first day, 6:50.
"Yes I have, I wanted to make sure you had a good breakfast on your first day of school. Don't expect me to make breakfast everyday. Also remember to make friends and to go to the office when you get there." My mom said as she made her coffee.
"Yes mom, I will go straight to the office once I reach school. I'm surprised you even made breakfast in the first place but this is amazing."
"Well I wanted you to have a good breakfast."
"Well thanks." I said to her as I put my plate in the sink and went to grab my keys.
"Have a good day at school Danielle." My mom said as she sat at the table with her coffee while she ate her breakfast.
I grabbed my keys and my backpack and went to the garage. I opened the car door and threw my bag in the passenger seat. While I put the keys into the ignition, I opened the garage and turned on the radio. Chains by Nick Jonas came on. I smiled as I backed out of the driveway. At least this wouldn't be a terrible car ride. It let me keep my mind off thinking about school. As I drove to school I thought about how this place has changed. They built a lot of new homes and new shopping plazas while I was gone. It doesn't look as deserted anymore as it use to.
As I saw Lake View High School come up on the side, I started to feel nervous. I drove into the parking lot and found a spot near the back. Kids were already looking at me as I passed. Couldn't they have anything better to do than stare at the new kid coming in. I cut the ignition and turned off the radio.
"You can do this. They might not remember you at all." I whispered to myself as I put my head on the steering wheel. I took a deep breathe and grabbed my bag and got out of the car. I slammed the door and looked around.
Some of the kids were still talking with their friends as others stared at me. I smoothed down the front of my shirt and walked to the entrance of the school. This was going to be an interesting first day of school.
