Over the course of a couple days, you continued on with your life, not finding time to stop at the convenience store. You thought about Stephen and wondered how he was doing. You concluded he was most likely doing fine as per usual. It honestly felt weird to not stop by and talk to him throughout the day since it had now become sort of a routine for you. You liked to thing he wasn't having much trouble managing the store either. Up to this point he never had any trouble, at least that you knew of.

You stepped into your house and flopped down onto your couch. You noticed (Cat's Name) from the corner of your eye laying down and sleeping. You stared out the window and closed your eyes for a moment. Once you reopened them, it was dark out. You sat up, looking around to see your whole house was pretty dark now besides the light on in the kitchen.

'How long had I slept?' You wondered to yourself, getting up and walking around. You noticed your cat who was still fast asleep. You stared at it for a moment before turning back towards the window and looking off into the distance, noticing the flickering soda machine out front. You decided;

'What the heck.' And walked out the door on your way to see Stephen. It would be nice to pay him a visit since it had been a few days. You supposed it didn't seem like that long but the days tend to drag out so it felt like a while. Plus, you really liked to talk with him so that just made it more difficult. As you neared the entrance, you saw the red hat kid walk out with all different sodas in his arms, walking towards the machine.

He put the sodas- in the machine? You thought drinks were supposed to come out of vending machines, not go back in them. You watched him for a moment more before continuing to walk inside. You noticed Stephen, who was staring off. He seemed annoyed.

"What do you want now kid?" He mumbled still not looking at you. You walked over to the counter and gave him a slight nudge which seemed to startle him. He quickly looked at you, confused.

"Wait, you're not him-" He added quickly. You smiled and watched as he composed himself.

"I didn't realize it was you. That kid has been walking in and out of this store for 20 minutes now, buying sodas. God knows what he needs em' for." Stephen stated, pointing at the kid who was still by the vending machine outside.

"It looked like he was putting sodas in the machine." You responded. Stephen face palmed.

"Well, it's not like I was going to put that machine to use anyways. It's as good as done. Plus, I'm getting paid so I don't really care what he does with em'. He added. You nodded and watched him as he got back up and started to walk off. You shrugged it off and looked back at Stephen who stared at the clock counting down till his shift ended. You and him sat in silence for a little longer until he spoke up.

"So, what brought you in tonight, [Reader]?" He asked. You didn't have an answer.

"I don't know. Just wanted to see how you're doing." He nodded before grabbing a soda from behind the counter and opening it.

"Well, I'm glad you're here. I like seeing ya." He replied taking a drink. You looked behind you and noticed the store that was still pretty from a few days ago when you cleaned it. As if Stephen read your thoughts, he began to speak.

"Yeah, thanks again for cleaning the store. I don't know how it managed to stay clean for this long, but its been nice." You smiled at his words. He seemed to appreciate you cleaning the store a lot.

"It's the least I could've done." You replied. He thought for a moment.

"Least? You don't owe me anything. You just did it because it was kind. You didn't have to do it." He said.
