“Even as the world falls apart, it’s the choices we make that preserve our humanity. It’s not about surviving the end; it’s about choosing who we become through it.” – Heeseung

White House Memorandum, Date 2020.8.14, Time 10:36
TO: Partners and Presidents of the States
FROM: Kim Namjoon, Chancellor
RE: WelcomeWelcome, subordinates, to the dawn of a new era—a monumental undertaking unparalleled in the annals of history. This is not a time for celebration, for we are mired in darkness unlike anything the world has ever faced. Yet, there is a glimmer of hope, a sliver of pride in knowing that we are at the forefront of humanity's salvation. We must act swiftly and decisively.
Our elite team of scientists and doctors has crafted a strategic plan. They estimate that we can achieve sixty percent of our goal by mobilizing our personnel to seek out potential subjects and test candidates.
We have already isolated several children from the resistance group known as 'The Force,' who have been deemed immune to the virus. These subjects are now under constant surveillance in our secure bunker labs.
Additionally, we identified a prime candidate within the Safe Haven near Ulsan. However, he vanished the night our operatives were set to secure him for isolation.
The situation is dire. One of our key subjects, Patient X08, has escaped and threatens to expose our mission. Moreover, two of our military personnel have gone rogue, posing a grave risk to our efforts.
We will spare no effort to locate and neutralize these threats to ensure the success of our cure. The collaboration between the States and the White House will be relentless, and communication will remain open at all times. I trust you will share any insights or concerns as we proceed.
The experiment to secure our future has commenced. Let us proceed with unwavering resolve and efficiency.
Mr. Kim tapped the send button on the laptop, a chilling smile curling his lips as the notification flashed across the screen. The message was sent to the leaders of the remaining nations—an unspoken declaration that the experiment to secure humanity’s future was well underway.
Pushing his chair back from the computer, Mr. Kim shifted his focus to the security cameras monitoring the quarantined children, all of whom had been identified as immune. His smile widened, not out of satisfaction, but a sinister delight as he observed their suffering.
The hope for the future was wrapped in the bleakest kind of fate, one far worse than the threat of zombies.
He watched intently as his wife, Claire, the Head Scientist, conducted an interview with one of the children, Daniel. The room was stark white, designed to be as sterile and clinical as possible, with a large transparent mirror on the left wall allowing the doctors to observe without being seen.
Daniel, the youngest among them, was curled up on the metal chair, hugging his knees. His eyes were red from exhaustion and tears, and his body trembled from the relentless testing.
Needles had punctured his veins, and electrifying currents had coursed through him, leaving him a shadow of the child he once was. The experiment aimed to see any changes in the virus that was injected into his system, and the scientists were relentless in their pursuit of results.
