WHEN Y/N HEARD WHERE HER parents were going, she was torn between wanting to cry or beg them to stay.

"We're needed, honey, it can't be helped," they told her, handing her her IC card as they kissed her goodbye.

"I don't particularly want to take a last-minute trip with the Kaminaris," Y/N protested, feeling a little guilty for acting so petulant but also not wanting to be left behind. "Do your jobs need you so desperately?"

"You know they do," her parents reminded her gently. "We love you, Y/N, and it's just a weekend stay at their lovely holiday house. We'll be back from Tokyo on Sunday night, just when you get back."

Y/N sighed, letting her parents hug her as she gazed out of the window at the Friday afternoon sun, still high enough in the sky to be uncomfortably warm, though she only wore a f/c shirt and shorts. "I'll see you on Sunday, then."

They smiled at her as they ventured out of the house to their car. "Have fun, sweetheart."

She watched them go, the car pulling out of the driveway and speeding away, leaving her standing alone at the doorway, with phone and IC in hand, and a night bag slung over her shoulder.

Y/N exhaled heavily, closing her eyes and attempting to mentally create a reality where her parents didn't  have to leave her with the family down the road she spoke to maybe 3 times a year. But a cold, salty breeze brushing her fluttering eyelids reminded her that that wasn't a possibility, and she did, in fact, have to catch a bus to the pier soon, or she'd miss her opportunity to go anywhere at all.
