A New Country

"Fa, is this not too soon?"

"We have to do it now."

Anglo and England were taking the scenic route to the throne room, both of them formally dressed for the occasion. Anglo mainly took the route to help calm down his son's nerves, but it did help his nerves too. Today was the day.

Today England was going to become a country.

It's fine, thought Anglo, this has happened thousands of times before. However, he was both curious and nervous at the same time, since he has never seen someone transfer their country status before with his own eyes. He never had to because the Roman Empire relinquished his claim to the land, so when he invaded England, it was free for the taking.
Saxon, on the other hand, has seen many entities become countries because he was one of the heads. It was his duty to be in the room when it happens. Additionally, he has seen it happen more than any head of entities as he was the head of insurgents. Often he would leave England to assist an insurgent to become a country.
In the morning, Saxon kept on telling Anglo that it was going to be fine whenever he saw his wings puffing up from being anxious.

When they arrived at the doors, the guards bowed in respect and granted them access into the now filled throne room. It contained everyone who worked in the castle to people from across the country who came to see their new entity to represent them. They stood to the sides to allow the father and son to walk towards the front, where Saxon was waiting for them. He wore his signature eyepatch and, this time, wore a long dark cloak with two seax crossed over on the back to symbolise his people, the Saxons.

When they walked to the front, there was an awkward moment where England did not know what to, so he stood there waiting for further instruction. Saxon indicated him to sit on the throne, which surprised him, and that Anglo stands behind him to the side. For a split second, England wondered why Saxon did not stand behind him too, but he remembered what England told him.

"Saxon is a full-time entity and only countries can have the status of countryhood. He did not have the status and it was solely me who had it; although, he did have a say in how the people in the land he conquered lived."

"We are here today," proclaimed Saxon to the people, snapping England back into reality, "to see that the status of being the country of these people to be transferred from Anglo to his son England.
"Are you ready?" He whispered to both of them; both of them nodded.
Saxon nodded at Anglo, signalling him to start.
Anglo had been practising these lines over and over again, making sure that he would not make a mistake. He stepped forward and said the words.
"I, Anglo, give up my status as head of this nation and people and bestow it to England."
Once he finished, England's eyes glowed then dimmed, and he was taken aback by the tingling sensation from being bestowed the status.
Satisfied that it happened, Saxon held out his hand to England to lead him forward. England, not sure what to do next, grabbed his father's hand and followed him so that they both stood and faced the people.

"Dear people," announced Saxon, "I present to you your new country, England, the head of this country and the English people."

A great cheer arose as everyone supported England. Then someone started to say a chant, which eventually everyone joined.

"Long live England!"

England, filled with pride from the people, grinned and waved and he was dumbstruck from their pride. After some time, he realised that he was still holding his father's hand, so he turned to see if he noticed.
What he saw was a small smirk from Saxon, filled with pride for his son.

Behind them, Anglo saw the whole thing unfold, and he was about to congratulate his son when something caught his eye. One of the spectators at the back stood up from the crowd; her face was devoid of any emotions, fiddling with her eyepatch while leaning against a spear.
And she was a country.
