A/N: Today is my birthday so here's a chapter lmao :D enjoy and plz tell me how u feel hehe

DEAR MOTHER,

It has been many months since I have seen you. Are you well?

I hope you are not too sick, and are taking care of yourself adequately; although the breeze in Liyue can chill your bones, you always seem to be too busy caring for Xingyun and Mingyun to care about yourself. Do take care; Zhaoyin does try to stop you, but you rarely listen, as I understand well enough.

Did you receive the fees I sent you last month? Please try not to send them back. I know you always try to refuse; but really, you know that money makes barely a dent in my account. If you need anything, please mention it in the next letter you send.

And please do not say I spoil Xing and Ming. What is the point of earning all this money if I cannot spend it on them? They deserve every last Mora; if you have any money left, buy them a toy or such. I remember Mingyun mentioning something about a kite he wanted. You should get him that; he has a somewhat understandable fascination for dragons, and his favourite archon is, as always, Morax. He wants to ascend to Celestia someday, I think. At least, he said that last year.

Speaking of which, I apologize for not writing to you in so long. I seem to have found myself occupied with certain matters concerning a certain city. Mondstadt is quite a nice place, really, and I enjoy it here very much. You need not to worry about me.

You do not need to write back, either. I am merely writing this to assure you that I am safe and alright; since I remember you worried quite a bit.

This letter is also an inquiry of sorts. I have spent many years away from you, ever since I turned sixteen, and I am beginning to think that perhaps I must be settling. I love Mondstadt in its own little way, and although Liyue is quite a charming city, I've decided...

Well, please don't be surprised: I've decided that settling in Mondstadt is not a bad idea after all.

You have been waiting for me to settle down since forever. I think, rather, that this is the chance: money is not much problem to me, and neither is my wellbeing- you know I fight well enough- so please, do not be worried. If you need anything, please come visit me in Mondstadt; for a family trip, or something of sorts. I know you love going on family trips, and so does Zhaoyin. I will make sure to treat you well, especially since I have made friends with a tavern-keeper. There are many friends I have made here, and really: I am well.

I hope you are, too.

Your daughter,

Helena

"Anything of interest?"

She tore her eyes away from the caravan travelling away far into the night, to come face-to-face with those inquisitive red eyes. The caravan, with the paper within it that was cradled within a box, carried far far away to the people who would do fine without her.

"No, no." She turned, her elbow against the railing, and reached up to brush his hair away from his eyes. He stiffened, as he always did, before relaxing. "Just. Something."

"Nothing good."

"Something from the past." She shifted. "You don't need to worry."

He hummed. She thought, maybe, he could read her better than she ever thought he could. His eyes were always at the peak of that, after so many months: taking her soul, and everything with that. His fingers took hers, twisted, brought her palm to his mouth to kiss it softly.

"Your hands smell like ink." He said, finally. "You write too much when you worry."

Bastard.

That was what he was: a bastard, and someone who hit too close to home.
