I wake up, and my eyes snap open. "Good Morning mom." I say politely to my mother. I sighed as I got up, walking to the dew collector to rub the sleep out of my eyes. I didn't have a problem with my mother, it was just in the morning, when I'm tired. I had a problem with anyone who didn't get it, who didn't see what the hivewings did and how they oppressed my kind. How they enslaved them, didn't even think twice about the fact that silkwings were inferior. It was a problem with all the hivewings, who didn't give a crap. Except for one, Honeysplash, my childhood best friend. Even knowing that Jewel Hive was the most relaxed, it made me even more furious that it was worse in the other hives. How could everyone not be angry? "Banana?" My mom offered from the other room of our cluster, interrupting my thoughts. We had been upgraded to a new cluster a few years ago, it was more spacious than the previous one, meaning that there were now two areas: The kitchen/the main room and entrance, and the bedroom. We had moved due to my connections with Honeysplash. Honeysplash had wanted to give us a better living situation, so of course, Hornet had allowed it. "Good morning, Gem!" my father said, dropping a banana into my talons, kissing mom on the cheek. "Good morning dad." I say as I peel my banana. "Are you ready for your math test?" Dad asks. "Yeah, it's my best subject." I responded in between bites of banana. "Well then, after school we might be able to celebrate!" Mom says enthusiastically. "Sure, mom. Can Honeysplash come? This is the most important test of the year." I ask hopefully. "Uh-sure. I'll ask her." Mom says, a strange look crossing her face. She doesn't want you to be friends with a hivewing.... She thinks you're inferior, you're a silkwing, look at yourself... she doesn't love you...' my mind whispers before I shut down those thoughts. 'I'm angry, but not at my parents. I think. "Thanks. I have to go to school, see you guys later, alright?" I ask, not waiting for an answer before I hurry out, snarfing the last of my banana. I nod at the neighbors, trying to keep calm, at least until I get into the hive and see the dragons who make me furious. The ones who enslave us. I can't think about it now. I have to stay calm. I have to stay calm. I have to stay calm. I repeat inside my brain. "Hey Amethyst!" A familiar male voice chimes. "Hi, clover." I sigh. Clover is our neighbor, he has a huge crush on me and he knows we will be paired. Well, that's what he thinks. Are you doing anything after school?" he asks hopefully. "Yes. I'm celebrating with my parents and my best friend." I say flatly. "Oh, I'm celebrating with you?" he asks. "You wish." I tell him, speeding up so I don't have to deal with that idiot. "Sorry, sorry. My metamorphosis is tomorrow, I was wondering if you would come? That's why I wanted to talk to you." he tells me desperately, panting, trying to catch up. He eats way too much during the rainy season and never exercises. "No. I'm late." I say, as I veer into the hive, taking the quickest route to my school. Even though we have a much better place in the webs, my mother refused to let me switch schools. She says it will mess with my education. And besides, I would have to deal with Clover all day. So not worth it. That arrogant jerk makes me even more mad. I quickly walk through the hive, keeping my head down and staying to the sides of the paths.

I finally arrive at Chrysanthemum hall, and I see my friend Bluebell. Bluebell is my school version of Honeysplash. Honeysplash is my best friend everywhere, but I mostly talk to Bluebell at school. "Hey Gem!" she calls. All my friends call me that.. I guess it caught on. "Hey Bluebell!" I call back. "Did Clover chase you again?" she asks me sympathetically. "Yeah. His metamorphosis is tomorrow." I say, with a grimace. "Oooh... How about we go inside? The test starts in fifteen minutes and I for one will not be late!" she tells me as she pulls me inside and into the math classroom. Our school is pretty nice, but not as fancy as some others. We only have one subject per morning that rotates daily, and we have extracurricular activities and study hall after lunch. We both sit down, cramming last minute studying in before the teacher quiets us.

We start the math test and Bluebell looks worried, like always. She's amazing, even though she always thinks she's going to fail, she never has. If you have to calculate the area of the webs, what equation do you use? The test reads. I jot down the formula, and move on to the next question. If you have a web structure with a length of 8 feet, a width of 10 feet, and a volume of 400 cubic feet, what is the height? I answer, and do more similar questions, until- "Stop! Hand your test to the dragon in front of you till they all get to my desk!" the teacher commands. I stretch, my joints popping. Most of the class joins me, as the teacher barks "Class dismissed! Proceed to the lunchroom!" we all file out and down a hallway, then we turn into the lunchroom and everyone grabs a piece of fruit.
