It is the sun total of all the reactions of the body. It is the defining feature. It itself is neither living nor non-living. They are living reactions but can't be considered as living thing. 

CELLULAR ORGANIZATION

Cell is basic unit of life. All the organisms are capable of performing essential function of life 

CONSCIOUSNESS

We sense the physical, chemical and biological stimulae in the surroundings because of sense organs and we can respond back. It is also present in plants. e.g TOUCH ME NOT & SUNFLOWER. Consciousness is shown by all living organisms but self-conscious is only shown by humans. Coma patients show consciousnes but not self-consciousness
