BE PREPARED THIS WILL BE A LONG CHAPTER WHICH WILL EXPLAIN WHOLE TAXONOMY

TAXONOMY

Taxis --> arrangement      nomy ---> law

Study of principles and procedure of classification.

Taxonomy was coined by A.P. de Candolle in his book "THEORY ELEMENTARY DELA BOTANIQUE".

IDENTIFICATION

An organism is recognized from the other by already known organism and is assigned to a particular taxonomic group is called identification.

NOMENCLATURE

Naming of organism according to international scientific rules is called nomenclature.

CLASSIFICATION

It is a process by which organism is grouped into convenient category on the basis of some easily observed characters.

AFFINITIES

Study of inter relationship between other organisms. For e.g if we keep a cat with a rat, it will chase it.. But if we keep the same cat with some bigger organism, taking dog or bull as an example, it will run away. This is called affinity

OLD SYSTEMATIC

This was proposed by Carl Linneus. it is derived from from latin word systema which means systematic arrangement of organisms. Study of diversity of organisms and all their comparative and evolutionary relationship. It includes description of external morphological characters. e.g Morphology of roots, stem and flowers.

NEOSYSTEMATIC/ NEW SYSTEMATICS

New branch and term was given by JULIAN HUXLEY  in 1940

It is used to know inter relationship among living organism. It is based on evolutionary and genetic relationship rather than morphological characters. it is also known as EXPERIMENTAL TAXONOMY. Practical significance of taxonomy is for identification of an unknown organism.

MAXIMUM DIVERSITY IS FOUND IN TROPICAL RAIN FOREST BECAUSE ENVIRONMENT IS PREDICTABLE AND LESS FLUCTUATING. SECOND MAXIMUM DIVERSITY IS FOUND IN CORAL REEF.
