Spending The Night

Sadie lay curled up by the armrest of the couch, sound asleep while Lenix sorted some things out beside her. His eyes flicked to the window and noticed how dark it was outside, the stars sparkling in the moonless sky. ‘It must be getting close to midnight.’ He thought as he looked at the clock on the cable box to confirm. It read 11:45. With a small grunt he got up from where he sat next to Sadie and made his way to the kitchen. He opened up one of the cupboards and grabbed a small glass before walking to the fridge with the built-in ice and water dispenser. Slowly, he pushed the glass against the dispenser and cringed as the ice fell loudly into the glass. ‘I hope I didn’t wake her. The poor thing needs some rest.’ He looked over his shoulder to check that she was indeed still asleep before pressing the water button, waiting patiently for the glass to fill up with water.

Satisfied with the amount of water in the glass he released the button and walked away from the fridge, going towards the stairs. He climbed the stairs quickly and reached his large bedroom in a matter of seconds. The walls were a light gray except for the one across from his bed, which was black, and his bed spread and bed frame were black as well. He had a few posters of some hot girls in bikinis, strictly there to keep his mind away from Sadie, although he never stopped thinking of her. On the left corner of the wall to the right of the door, the accent wall, was a white staircase bookshelf filled with books on the Supernatural. The wall opposite the door, between his bed and the staircase bookshelf, had two windows evenly spaced with normal white blinds for his own privacy. Below the window on the left was a small wooden desk with a laptop on it and swivel chair for him to sit in. A black acoustic-electric guitar stood on a stand opposite the desk, to the right of the door, with a small amp a foot away from it. His music was scattered on the floor around the guitar and his picks were laid out neatly on top of the amp. The carpet was a creamy color that was almost white and his black dresser was on the left side of his bed, the right side occupied by his black nightstand.

Without a second thought he went to his dresser and opened the bottom drawer where he kept the blankets. He grabbed a purple blanket that he knew Sadie loved and closed the drawer before going back downstairs. In the same position, Sadie lay asleep and still on the couch, almost as if she were dead, except for the rise and fall of her chest. He walked over to her and gently placed the blanket over her, making sure it covered her entire body, including her feet. “Goodnight.” He whispered as he leaned over and placed a soft kiss on her exposed forehead.

When she didn’t stir he sighed in slight relief and went back upstairs to his bedroom. He changed into a pair of pajama pants, leaving his shirt off, and climbed into his bed. He lay there for a while before finally falling asleep, dreaming about Sadie in the before and now.

Sometime during the night he woke slowly and felt someone beside him, hoping it was Sadie. He slowly opened his eyes and looked over to see her curled up against him. He smiled at her and was glad she chose to sleep with him rather than in the guest bedroom. With some repositioning he wrapped both arms around her and drew the covers over them, his eyes closing slowly as she snuggled into him. They slept soundly and both of them stayed still all through the night.

Lenix was the first one to wake and he slowly removed his arms from her, causing her to stir and mumble something. “Sh.” He whispered as he slipped out from under the covers. “Just sleep, my darling.” He got up and went downstairs to begin making breakfast for them, scrounging around in the cupboards so he could make her favorite breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes with eggs, bacon and orange juice.
