Sadie slowly woke up and rubbed her eyes groggily, opening them slowly. “What?” She said to herself when she saw that she was enveloped by the black sheets of Lenix’s bed. “Ohh…” She said in realization as the events of last night came back to her. Sometime in the middle of the night she had gotten up and crawled into his bed for warmth and….She shook her head to rid herself of the thought and gingerly came down from his bed. “Lenix!” She yelled as she walked to the closed door to see if he was still in the house.

Lenix heard Sadie’s voice from upstairs and smiled a little, glad she was awake. “I’m down here.” He called back before returning to the pancakes which were almost done.

Sadie hesitated for a moment before rushing down stairs, quickly smoothing her long hair. “Good morning.” She said softly, not really noticing he was cooking as she passed the kitchen.

“Good morning.” He replied smoothly as he plated the pancakes, two each. He grabbed two glasses from one of the cupboards close by and went to the fridge to get the orange juice. “Did you sleep well?” He asked while shaking the orange juice quickly before filling each glass. Glancing over at her, he quickly scooped some scrambled eggs onto each plate and brought the plate of bacon to the table.

She fiddled with her hands as she replied, not wanting to look up just yet. “I slept well.” A small smile touched her lips as she remembered climbing into his bed. “What about you?” Her eyes flicked up quickly to meet his gaze.

He flashed her a handsome smile and brought the glasses of orange juice to the table next. “I slept quite well, thank you.” He brought the plates over next and then the silverware and napkins. ‘I hope she likes this.’ He thought as he looked the table over before slowly walking over to her.

“You’re welcome.” She said quietly as he approached, feeling the flutter of nervousness in her stomach. She allowed him to come closer, briefly closing her eyes as his aroma filled her senses.

“Hungry?” He asked gently as he swiftly leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her forehead while taking one of her hands in his. He eased her up off the couch and led her to the table, gently holding her hand.

She blushed and nodded, letting him lead her to the table. “Yes.” Opening her eyes she looked from him to the table and smiled softly. “You remembered.” She whispered and he nodded, pulling her chair out for her.

“Of course I did.” He said as if it would be absurd for him to have forgotten. “Although you did have me worried.” He chuckled and eased her into her chair before sitting across from her, the smile still planted on his face. He stepped around the table and sat across from her, his eyes searching her face.

“What do you mean?” She asked as her brow furrowed in confusion. Her hands absently grazed the silverware, picking the knife and fork up. “If anyone should be worrying it’s me.” She said quietly to herself, her gaze drifting down from his.

He reached across the square table and gently eased her head up with his index and middle finger. “Hey don’t be like that.” He said softly as his hand returned to its spot on the table. With a reassuring smile he picked up his silverware as well. “Now eat before it gets cold.” He let out a chuckle, although it sounded a bit forced.

She nodded and began to cut her pancakes, a small smile touching her lips as she saw that the chocolate chips were melted into the pancakes. Just the way she liked it. Everything was perfect, she decided after glancing at him.

After they had finished breakfast, Lenix took of the dishes without hesitation. It was perfect to Sadie. It was her first actual “human meal” since they parted. Sitting awkwardly at the table she watched him for a few hesitant seconds before slowly rising from her chair. “Thank you.” She said for at least the third time since she had seen the meal. “I-It means a lot to me….That you remembered.” She looked down, clasping her small hands in front of her.

Barely hearing her unusually quiet voice he turned to her and smiled faintly. “No need to thank me. It was no trouble.” He returned the quiet, soft voice. A bit concerned with her unusual state he moved to stand in front of her. “I couldn’t forget if I tried.” He whispered, leaving little distance between them. Slowly he lifted his hand to her face, gently tilting her head up to look at her. “But I didn’t, because I didn’t want to.”

Sadie felt her cheeks redden considerably, his sweet, soft voice and gentle touch made her want to tell him she still loved him. But she couldn’t bring herself to say the words aloud, so she gazed into his eyes as her bottom lip quivered slightly.

“Sh.” He whispered as he noticed her quivering lip from the corner of his eye. “I know you’re not good with these kinds of things.” He moved his hand up to cup her cheek, slowly leaning in as his eyes drifted close.

She leaned into his hand, acutely aware of his handsome face coming closer to hers. Her hands didn’t know what to do, so they simply twitched in anticipation. Their lips touched lightly at first, Sadie’s eyes closing instantly. Lenix slowly slid his hand around her waist and pulled her to him as he deepened the kiss, feeling something like electricity flow through his body. She felt it too, welcoming it and the feel of his lips on hers.

Then the doorbell rang, running the perfect moment. “Damn it.” He said to himself as he sighed, opening his eyes to look at her. The doorbell rang again.

“Are you going to get that?” She asked quietly as she slipped away from him. “I don’t want to intrude…” She looked down as she walked to the stairs. “I’ll be in your room.” Not giving him time to answer, she ascended the stairs without a second thought.

He opened his mouth to protest but it was too late. She was gone. “Damn.” He cursed as he ran a hand roughly through his hair, walking to the door. Keeping his breathing quiet, he put his eye to the peephole to see a male about his age standing behind the door. Assessing him quickly through the peephole he noticed he was tall, lean, and unsuccessfully hiding a gun in his trousers. “Amateur.” Lenix mumbled in a barely audible voice as he placed his hand on the bolt, unlocking it with a flick of his wrist. Taking a deep breath, he slowly turned the doorknob and opened the door. With a polite smile plastered on his face, he kept his eyes locked on the man’s. “Hello. May I help you?” Lenix asked in an even voice as he made sure to crack the door so only his head was visible.

“Yes.” The man said quickly. He had shaggy brown hair, hazel eyes, and practically flawless skin. “I’m looking for a girl.”
