A Way Out (Clone Wars Fan Fic)

Chapter 6

"YOU SAW AHSOKA AND YOU DIDN'T THINK TO TELL ME!"

Anakin was enraged. Well, enraged was an understatement. He was extremely mad, like water in a pot that had been heating up and was now furiously boiling over. Anakin Skywalker had quite a temper. All the troops knew that, and they knew not to get on the wrong side of him. Of course, Rex hadn't tried to make Anakin mad. He was just trying to figure out what happened in the battle, and if he had seen Ahsoka or not. Come to think of it, why didn't Rex tell the General about Ahsoka when he first saw her? Rex was pondering this when Anakin suddenly let out a scream, of anger and of pain and everything else.

Anakin had been bottling his feelings. Ever since Ahsoka went missing, he just seemed, well, empty. He hadn't expressed many emotions about the whole situation. While Obi-Wan seemed very worried about Ahsoka, Anakin was just silent and reserved. After the meeting with the council about Ahsoka disappearing during her last mission, the council had decided that Ahsoka would be announced missing in action. Anakin nodded, and quietly exited the council chamber to tell his men.

The 501st loved Ahsoka. They were like a big, happy, family. Well, maybe not necessarily happy all the time, but they were there for each other and comforted each other during hard times. So, when they were told the news of Ahsoka they were distraught. Their dear commander was missing. The news of Ahsoka missing took a toll on every member of the 501st, but it affected some people more than others.

Rex was distracted all the time, for he was always thinking about what could have happened to Ahsoka and why he wasn't there to keep her from danger. Fives had lost his sense of humor. He missed his commander's high-pitched laugh that would always come after he cracked a joke. Jesse, well Jesse had stopped talking as much, and just trained every waking moment to distract himself from the ache in his heart that was longing for Ahsoka's company. Kix stopped sleeping and focused on working, hoping to keep himself from thinking about what could be happening to Ahsoka right now. Echo seemed quieter than usual, and always seemed lost in thought. Mostly, thoughts about Ahsoka. Hardcase had less energy and wasn't jumping around nearly as much. Which was odd, because, well, because Hardcase was always energetic. Tup lost his smiley attitude and started to see the dark more than the light ever since Ahsoka wasn't there to talk to.

They had lost Ahsoka before, of course. Like that one time where she was captured by the Trandoshans and they hunted her along with other younglings that were there. The clones had been worried, but their General was on the hunt to find the people who took her and assured them that she was still alive. Skywalker had claimed that he could still feel her force signature. But this time, it was different. When Skywalker went to tell the men about Ahsoka's disappearance, he mentioned how he didn't feel her force signature anymore. This worried everyone in the 501st. If Anakin couldn't feel her force signature, she would be hard to find. She could be.... dead. But the 501st didn't want to think of that. They couldn't think of that.

Rex looked up at Anakin, who was now on his knees with his hands on his head. Rex knew this was bound to happen. Anakin was not good with emotions. This was the first time he showed any reaction about Ahsoka's disappearance.

"Sir?"

Rex knelt down next to his General. Anakin glanced up at him.

"I'm fine, Rex. Just.... leave me alone."

His words stung. They were harsh, and anger was still in his voice. Anakin stood, and immediately left the makeshift med-bay. Before he exited, he looked back.

"We'll move locations at the break of dawn. Get some rest."

And with that, Anakin was gone.
