Prologue: Tea or Coffee?

Sundays were the usual days when most customers often visit our little cafe. It rests in the corner of a small street down by the river that runs through the town. Mostly, tourists reside at our small open house, yet the pay was low in my gratitude. The cafe was named 'Little Talisman' after our charm on well served organic beverages and delicacies we give. It had mixed taste of rustic and nature decorations: without the non eco friendly carbon dioxide we produce from our coffee machines and ovens (also our breaths).

My hands fiddle with my black apron until I heard a shout coming from the front of the counter.

"Pippa! Come on; there's already a dozen out here!" I don't bother to reply and quickly rush to grab my pen and note pad from one of the shelves. After fiddling, my eyes gaze over the crowd of morning people: some faces new and regular. I spotted Georgia already jotting down orders whilst I saw one of the staff - Becky - working behind the counter with the numerous amounts of machines.

Taking a breath, I started the usual routine as normal as I can. However, you would often get that one annoying customer who complains that their coffee is not hot enough. Who has lava temperature beverages? I ignored the fact that my day could not have started badly and focused on my job.

To know that my job was low paid, I have been searching for specific jobs over the past month. After graduating from university - a degree in photography - I wanted to set up my own business like most photographers. I was told it was hard since there's already thousands of people who will have the same job as I would have wanted. For now: I'm going to stick with jotting down orders by stuck up customers.

A few hours came by; less people came after it had turned 11am. Becky had gone after her shift to do school studies whilst me and Georgia chatted for a while as we cleaned some of the tables. I looked at my best friend and I could always tell anyone that I'm jealous of her.

Georgia was always better than me at everything (except on photography). She can solve any maths problem: remember how many wives did King Henry Viii once had, completed a portrait of the landscape with just a pen and be brave enough to sky dive! These were the things I would be good enough to do, but not as great as her.

However, even if she was better: Georgia was also jealous of me in photography.

"So Georgia," I started talking. "Have you decided taking that proposal I heard? I mean...being a member of the National Polo team would be a dream!" Mentioning about it, she had stopped wiping the farthest table with a cloth and sighed.

"I really don't know Pippa..." She said tiredly. "Like I mean...I want to but... that means I'll have to leave you guys and travel the world, and train everyday!"

"So that means a no?" I smiled.

Georgia smiled and laughed, "Yes! If only we stick forever and ever; okay?"

"Okay, whatever you say..." I moaned and we carried on cleaning with our laughs echoing the room. Luckily it was quiet - no customers enter around this time of the day now since there were newer restaurants opened nearer to the centre of Bourton-On-The-Water. Though, we do let one specific customer in: my other friend.

"Hello ma peeps!" Bursting through the door was Georgia and I friend: Dan.

"F off!" I said, throwing my cloth at his face, making Georgia laugh and Dan choke from the anti-bacterial scent.

"Dan, we told you not to enter like that." Georgia stated as she began walking up behind the counter and started the coffee machine. I asked for a mocha and Dan asked or a Latte after having a cloth in his face. Dan and I sat down on the counter spinny chairs as we watched Georgia make us drinks. It was normal to use this time as a free time.

I turned around to face Dan and asked, "So... how's the life of a 'Youtuber'?" I air quoted the 'Youtuber' part and he totally made it cool.

"Rad," he plainly replied. "Almost to 100,000 subs!"

"That's great, even if I don't really know what's up with watching people play games - qualifying it as a job." Georgia spoke handing me a white ceramic mug and Dan a blue pastel one.

"Well... Pippa should know the life since she's a relative of a gamer," He nudged my shoulder and I rolled my eyes. I hated when he mentioned it every time we speak about his channel.

I explained firmly, "I know Lewis is a Youtuber, but please don't mentioned it again. It's really annoying." I sighed and took sip.

"You're jealous aren't you?" Dan answered as I choked.

"I am not jealous! You just don't know how embarrassing to know him so closely but I'm not interested at his work." I shrugged.

Georgia supported head with her hands whilst leaning against the wooden counter. "Well... don't you have another brother? What's his name again? James? Rufus?" Before any of the two can say anything else the front door opened by the hanging bell above the frame.

There was postman, with his normal uniform and a satchel.

"Are any of you Phillippa Brindley?" He held a white envelope on his right hand, making me wonder.

"Um, that's me." I put my hand up and dropped it as I walked up to him. Giving it to me, he nodded goodbye with his cap - letting me thank him for the letter. I turned back round to find the two curiously looking at me. We never often get letters these days; it was all in computers and phones until now.

My hands felt against the soft crisp envelope before looking at the stamps on the back. It had a stamp with a field landscape on it.

I looked up to Georgia who said, "Open it." Slowly, I did so and revealed a printed letter saying;

To Pippa Brindley,

It must have been at least what...5 years I haven't seen you? Well, I haven't changed really to be honest. I'm your brother and I should still keep in touch with you often. However, instead of just visiting you and Lewis for a day, I was wondering if you'll be able to take a break and visit my place for a while. Just or about... 2 weeks in September? The crops haven't been harvested, but I won't be ordering any seed suppliers after the winter seasons.

Also, I had invited Lewis and his co-workers as well to the manor. I hope you accept the invitation since I am allowing some guests - friends of yours - to my place.

Yours,

Ralph Brindley, your brother.

P.S: Congrats on your graduation!
