Chapter 2: Introductions and Golden Retrievers

After we had passed the huge sign saying 'The Brindley Estate' I remembered that I quickly glimpse the tiny writing underneath it saying: 'Agricultural Farmlands'. My brother had always the love of the countryside; he was the most active one of us. Whenever we had to garden our plants, Lewis and I never liked it any bit except Ralph. He was very interested in agriculture and biology: mostly on nature.

The best things the three of us did together were camping in some random field. I couldn't remember since I was just a small little girl - around five years old; our parents had some very old relatives who they owned so many fields. One of them had lots of horses, which I adored so much.

Lewis would be reading some science book from his grammar school library whilst Ralph taught me the different types of horses there were in the opposite field we were in - engulfed with an orchard of apple trees.

"Someday Pip," Ralph said to me as we leaned against the wooden fence. "I want to take over this Estate."

"Why is that Ralphy?" I asked him with my childish voice.

He replied, "Someday, I want to create my very own place where I can produce so much nature and wildlife and still be eco-friendly." To this day onwards: he still amazes me how much he achieved his dream; I still haven't started got to sleep to dream it.

The landscape began changing as James drove slowly through the single road. Remote lands turned into uniformed fields of grown crops. The September weather surely kept the crops still fresh and organic. I turned back to focus the road in front of me, smiling softly at natural beauty I missed years before.

Georgia will love this holiday, in my guessing. To my prediction, Ralph would have kept at least 'some' farm animals or horses here. It might be likely; I would not dare to see them though.

"Holy crap Pippa..."Dan said. "Your brother owns this?"He asked.

I didn't know for sure how answer this, yet I was thinking that he did own it all. "Yeah, I guess so; he never told me about it."I said.

We kept quiet - so we wouldn't be judged as immature - until a glimpse of the huge manor appeared from the horizon. It was definitely bigger than I expected.

The walls were solid block cream with brown tiling for the roof. It curved slightly around to form a front lawn shaped as a circle. The single road had turned into two ways around the front lawn, which was fluorescent and colourful with multiples of plantation and hedges. On top of that, huge willow and oak trees gave the front a cool atmosphere from the sun. For once I was gobsmacked; this was my brother's transformation.

"It may be an option if you close your mouth Miss Brindley," James retorted after he saw me drop my jaw in awe.

I apologised with a smile and said, "Sorry." After nodding his head, he drove clockwise round the front lawn and slowed down in front of the house.

"Here you are," James kindly said. "Welcome to the Brindley Estate." Before I got out, I turned around to face Georgia and Dan, who was also shocked. James had gotten out whilst the three of us looked at each other.

"Okay, what the hell is this?" Georgia asked and I laughed.

"I don't effing know, Georg." I laughed.

"Your brother's company might be effing rich!"Dan exclaimed. We had another laugh before exiting the car.

Of course when you get out of your car from a long travel, you of course have your luggage at the booth; you'll probably have to get it out. In this case: this happened.

I climbed out of the car and waited for Georgia and Dan to do as well. Right when we thought of getting our belongings from the back, two random people in uniform were already with our stuff.

"Um Pip," Georgia quietly said next to me. "They have our stuff; they're servants I think." I raised an eyebrow when the woman and man heaved our luggage up the granite stairs and onto the terrace.

My brother can actually afford servants.

"Come on, we should follow them." I answered and began sauntering down the driveway. Keeping myself cool, I took another breath. Right then, a quick force sent me tumbling down. Next came a barking sound. A barking sound?

I looked up and giggle; on top of me was a beautiful golden retriever panting - its big soft paws on my shoulders. It looked down at me and panted, also began licking my face.

"Why hello little fellow," I smiled. "Aren't you great at introductions." With my hand, I softly stroke his head.

I heard James call out after a whistle, "Buster, how many times have you've been told not to jump at our guests?" I heard the poor fellow whimper but still wagged his tail in delight.

"Don't worry," I said. "He's just saying hello, aren't you boy?" He barked in agreement and I laughed. Georgia had come over to lend a hand. Getting up onto my feet, Buster heard the same whistle from James (who was standing on top of the stairs) and ran towards him. The smile plastered on my face was still there when the three of us head up and in front of the door way.

We entered in and I had no words to describe it. The ceiling stretched quite high with a glass chandelier hanging above. Wooden beams supported the white ceiling, which was connecting to the marble pillars. The large room was modern, with white sofas and armchairs and glass tables. The red carpet was clearly standing out from the dark oak wooden floor. On the right and left were two anonymous doors towards the other parts of this huge place; in front was another corridor leading to a staircase.

Georgia was already looking around, her body firmed from one spot. Dan was obviously being himself, taking pictures with his iPhone - which gave me an idea. I got my digital camera from my rucksack and took a picture of the huge room. On the picture was Georgia, facing upwards and her beautiful blond hair showing.

"I must be going now," James said with Buster beside him. "Someone will shortly be with you. If you need me, I will always be outside attending important matters."We all thanked him before he left the room - Buster trailing behind him.

"You know," Dan called out whilst on his phone, "This is so good for my Instagram account."

"I really don't get social media these days," I sighed. "All people do is either try to be a star or fangirl or fanboy about them."

"You never know Pippa," Georgia retorted. "Some people on the internet are good. Unlike this person..." She went behind Dan and whacked him behind the head. "Tends to show off."

"Hey!"Dan whined and rubbed where my bad*ss friend hit him. "I'm not showing of..."

Right when Dan was about to protest, we heard someone cough - most likely to catch our attention. In front of us was a young lady - looking the same age as us - waiting patiently.

"Hello," The lady greeted. "Welcome to Mr. Brindley home. I am Lola Hollows, you may call me Lola." She had such a soft formal voice, opposite from her red fiery hair.

"Mr Brindley had assisted me to show you where things are in the estate; this place is quite a size. But as you can hear, there will others joining you shortly before we begin descending to the dining room for lunch."

It was right then in queue, we turned around to spot a small crowd of noise outside the front. Looking more closely, I saw the familiar face of the brother of mine. He caught my eye as he walked in with - as I think - his girlfriend. I smiled as he came up to me. He was older, yet I still saw the childish personality in his eyes when he smiled back.

"Well, look who it is..." My brother spoke, "happy to see you little sister." He ruffled my hair.

"Well...nice to see you again big bro Lewis."I replied and returning a smile.
