Chris' POV

"What did you do," I said angrily.

"I blocked all of the powers you rely on so you can learn to use metal," David said. I calmed and relaxed.

"OK sorry," I said and David waved and walked away.

"There is a battlefield down the street, I would train, or else it might bite you in the ass," Anna said and started to walk off before winking at me. I guess it's time to start over. I'm not necessarily a top dog anymore, I've got to work hard. So I walked down the street to the arena and walked inside. I previously thought there were only a few hybrids in general but there were at least 50 training alone. I see a few of the beginners learning the basics and experts using techniques I've never seen before. I went to a corner and tried to train. I tried to focus on the earth elements in the metal but got nowhere. Minutes turned into hours and I still can't use the metal. Just then a young adult walked up to me. His hair was so blonde, it was shining like gold. His white teeth gleamed and he wore a bow on his back. Oh, gods, a son of Apollo.

Hello, you are new, right," he asked. He sounded genuinely kind about it.

"Yes my name is Chris and you are," I asked him.

"My name is Taft, I'm the son of Hermes, and my mom was an Umbran," he said. 'Good he's not an Apollo spawn'.

"Mind if we sparred," he asked me, and now I'm uneasy.

"Uh I'm still kinda new at this," I said cautiously.

"So, you got metal. Let's do this," he said and nodded slightly. He lifted his hand and the metal rose to turn into a sword. I attempted to do something but the metal just sat there. I was concentrating when the sword flew past my face. I was fast enough to dodge. The sword turned toward me and changed into a boomerang. It whistled toward me again, slicing open my leg. 'God damn that hurt' I thought. The metal went back to Taft and changed back into a plate. Taft then started raising his arms and the metal grew around him, making armor and spikes on his knuckles. He charged me, and we engaged in hand-to-hand combat. As he went on the offense, I blocked and dodged. I wasn't gonna get anywhere like this. So I dodged a punch to the gut and tried to punch him. My fist broke on the metal armor.

"Ahhh," I screamed in agony. He took this pain to start gaining ground on me. He then started punching my gut. One, I felt the pain of the spikes running into me. Two, blood started crawling down my stomach. Three, my vision started to spot. I made a last-second effort to use the metal. I got ready to take the blow but all I heard was a bang. I opened my eyes and saw my metal block the blow. I can't believe I did it. I jumped back and forced the metal to turn into armor around me. A sword grew in one hand and the other, a shield. I ran at him and slammed my sword into his armor. Metal started chipping and sparks danced in the sky. He strafed and changed his hands into maces. He then jumped and tried to slam them into me. I block but the force almost destroyed my shield. I jumped back and threw liquid metal onto his feet, which hardened. Which resulted in a stuck Taft. As he was distracted, I took the chance to turn my metal into a wrecking ball and launched it at him. It slammed him into the wall, his steel changed back to normal as he fell. That's when I saw black.

I woke up quickly grasping for air. I was still bleeding out my gut and Taft was still on the ground.

"What happened," I hear a familiar voice scream. Just then Anna ran through the door and to me.

"No, go help Taft," I said. She resentfully got up and went to his aid. I turned onto my back and turned my metal into liquid. I put it on my gut, feeling it heal my wounds. I saw Taft sit up and Anna looked at me as I stood up.

"What fucking happened," Anna said and I shook my head.

"We were sparring and it got a little out of hand," I said. She put her hand on her temple and shook her head.

"Ugh guys, when will they learn," she said scarily calm. Outta nowhere she got up into my face. In fear, I made my metal go in between us, blocking us.

"Oh you learned how to use your metal, that doesn't fucking matter," she yelled and my steel went flying. She got closer to me and cast a spell to make me cower. As she stepped forward, I cowered back.

"Do you understand you could have seriously hurt Taft or worse yourself," she said. Instead of cowering, I did the unthinkable and hugged her. She instantly relaxed.

"It's ok," I said calming.

"Thank you," she said and I let go.

"What's going on over here," Taft asked.

"Nothing," we both said.

"Uh-huh sure," he sarcastically said and winked at me. Anna got up in his face and he instantly took off before we could anything to him.

"So back to the cabins," she asked.

"Yep," I said as we ran off. Not gonna lie I may like it here. A new home, my home.
