I walked into the house feeling like I left something back at the shed. Whatever it was, it could wait until later when Alex wasn't there. As I walked into the kitchen, I instantly got interrogated by Katy.
"Where the heck have you been?" She screamed into my face. She looked mad. Crap. When she's mad, she'll stay mad until you do something about it. I can usually lie my way out of stuff, but this... Yeah, there is no I'm getting out of this.
"I was, uh-"
"With Alex." She interrupted. She can see right through me and I always forget that.
"Why would you say that?" I asked.
"Because it's the truth." She spat back.
"Okay fine. You caught me." I threw my hands up in a mock surrender.
"Hannah, I told you to stay away from him!" She screamed. Her face red with anger. I didn't like it. She was so mad that I actually thought steam was about to come out of her ears.
"I know, mother" I said back.
"Don't start" She replied bitterly.
"Trust me. I'm not." I marched upstairs and semi-slammed my door. I reached in my pocket to get my phone, but I didn't feel it. I remember setting it down in the shed. Great.
I sneak back downstairs and slide out of the back door. The trail to get back to the club house was confusing, but I finally made it. The door was still open from where I walked out. I peered into the shed, Alex was sitting on the rug in the reading corner looking at a picture of a girl that he held in his hand. His back was to the door so that meant that I'd have to stay quiet. I started sneaking across the room. Since the shed was so old, I stepped on a weak spot in the wood and it let out a small squeak.
He jumped ad spun around, his face changing from scared to confused to angry.
"I told you to leave." He said as he stood up. His fists clenched and his mouth pressed into a fine line.
"I, uh, forgot my, uh-"
"Spit it out." He interrupted.
"My phone" I replied weakly.
He walked over to a small coloring table where I had set it down. It had a bucket of crayons in the middle and some aged coloring books surrounding it. He picked it up and hit the power button.
"Melissa" he read in a girly voice, "OMG. Girl. You will never believe what happened! So after registration-" he paused and looked up from my phone in disgust.
"Take it and get out." He threw the phone at me and I almost didn't catch it.
"Thank you" I mumbled and left as quickly as I did the first time stormed out.
