When we come to a stop in the literal middle of nowhere, he turns off the engine and reaches to get out of the car but stops when he realizes I'm just sitting there in amazement.

"Are you comi..."

"This is my new school?!" I cut him off, still staring in surprise at the beautiful building in front of me.

"Yep, and the only one in town due to the lack of kids who live around here."

"Wow, the only thing I knew about this place was it's weird name, which I'll admit I still don't know how to pronounce, I wasn't expecting it to look like this!"

"Yeah, I kind of forgot you'd have a reaction, it may look shocking now but just wait, after you've been here for a while it starts to lose its charm and feel like a plain old school. Oh, and it's pronounced (e-med-a-ca) (Lare-ru-tan-re-pus) but everyone just simply calls it the Academy. Basically, it used to be a castle for Fallrose's original "royal" family or something but then a lot of inheriting happened, and it finally became a school, but you'll learn about that in class eventually."

"Oh, sounds really fancy, what is this a boarding school or something," I joke.

"Uh yeah... you really have no clue where you were going today?"

"Apparently not, this whole situation just keeps getting more and more confusing!"

"I'll explain as much as I can later but let's just start by getting you enrolled."

. . . . . . . .

I follow Griffin through the school's main doors and stop once I see a collection of students gathering in what looks like the dining room. The room has multiple large bay windows that give off tons of natural light and is lined with spiral columns, like the ones matching outside, that decorate every corner and support the upper levels. On the right-hand side of the room, there's a grand spiral staircase that, as the directional signs say, leads to the upstairs dorms. Scattered throughout, there's wooden tables and chairs filled with students in a variety of black and white uniforms talking amongst themselves, either eating breakfast foods or drinking out of jet-black tumblers decorated with the school's crest on the front. Once they all see me appear behind Griffin, they all stop talking and turn their attention to me.

"Today's Sunday so no one has classes, it'll seem more normal tomorrow when everyone's following their routine, but for now I'll introduce you so they can at least stop staring" Griffin whispers to me.
"Guys, this is our new student Prisden, she'll be staying with us for the rest of the semester and will be graduating this spring. She just moved here so make her feel welcome, if you have any questions, bring them to me, now get back to what you were doing."

And at that, everyone takes their attention off me and goes back to their previous conversations.

"Wow thanks, that could've been nerve-wrecking if you weren't here!"

"Don't mention it, I'm one of the first kids who enrolled here, so they know who I am, and they listen to me."

"Good to know," I laugh and follow behind him to the main office.

"Good morning Griffin, coming from donation?" the cute, old secretary greets.

"Oh no, I haven't gone yet. I've got a new girl for you to enroll, she doesn't know anything about this place so I'm going to show her around later and make sure she meets some people," Griffin says with a wink.

What was that about?

"Oh, I see. Hi honey, name?" she asks me sweetly.

"Uh Prisden Blake."
