I stood in the mirror. Gaia. That girl? She's gone. My new name is Erica Jensen.
I have blond hair. No more black hair.
I have green eyes now. Not the light blue they used to be.
I had long hair.
This is so not me.
I turned in the mirror. Miss Lacefield did my makeup and well, turned me into Erica.
"Ready Erica?" Miss Lacefield beamed at me.
Before I could answer there was a tight grip around my upper arm.
"Remember the rules. No sudden movements. You are Erica. You are meeting Oliver for the first time and Gaia is dead." She hissed in my ear.
I nodded. She pulled me to the car. The hospital was just down the road.We took a right at the end of our street and turned left. We eventually got to the hospital.
We got out of the car and hurried inside. We went to floor 3 and turned right. Doctors and nurses were walking by. The high heels I was wearing were clicking loudly as we walked down the silent hallway.
Oliver's room. I suck in a breath. We entered to find a doctor by his side taking notes.
"Ah. Miss Lacefield." He said looking above his glasses.
"Hello. How is my boy doing? When will he wake up?" She asked curiously.
"He did well in surgery and is doing fine now. We are supposed to wake him up." The doctor looked at his watch and then returned his gaze back on Oliver," Right about now." The doctor placed his hands on Oliver and gently shook him.
"Oliver..." He said shaking.
Oliver stirred.
"Oliver you need to wake up now."
He groaned. Oliver tried to sit up but the doctor pushed him back into his pillows.
"Oliver. Relax. Your mother and..." He looked at me.
"Erica." I said glancing over at Miss Lacefield.
"Where is Gaia? Erica you sound exactly like her." Oliver said with his eyes still closed.
Miss Lacefield shot me a look.
"Um..." I look at Miss Lacefield for help.
"Ah. Gaia passed away."
"No!" He said sitting up. The doctor pushed him back.
"No! She is not dead. I last saw her in the hospital healthy. I got up for her and kissed her. and then..." He fell silent.
"Gaia is dead. Oliver trust me." I plead. I walk over to him and hold his hand.
"Your name is not Erica. It's Gaia. I know this cause your hand always fits right into mine."
I stiffle a cry. I need to be here.
"Oliver I'm not G-"
"Don't lie to me! Gaia!" He started to cry.
"Oliver." I whisper.
"Kiss me. I can tell if its you or not." Oliver grabbed my hand. His eyes still closed.
