Summary: Mal learns something he didn't want to hear from (Y/N)'s mouth.

"Can you believe it?" Mal asked as he looked around camp while throwing on his jacket.
"It's crazy isn't it!" I huffed as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders while we walked through camp together.
"Do you want to cross the fold?" I questioned as I grabbed his hand with mine.
"Id like to visit Ketterdam someday, so yeah maybe." he giggled as I looked down at my feet and faked a smile.
"We both know the general won't choose us though," he added while shaking my shoulders playfully."Yeah no, he won't choose us." I tried to keep my breathing steady as I raised my head up to look in front of us.
"Why are you hesitant?"
"I'm not!"
"Yeah, you are!"
I giggled and shook my head as we reached two males near a second army tent."Mikhael, Dubrov!" Mal shouted two unknown names.
"Let me introduce you too (Y/N), my best friend." Mal introduced as he pulled his arm off my shoulders so the boys could shake my hand properly."Your little friend aye?" the one named Dubrov questioned as he hit Mal on the shoulder playfully.
"Little friend?" I huffed with a smirk as Mal blushed and avoided my eyes.
"Come on now, she's not my little friend." He mocked as he gestured to me with his hand.
"You're right, you're right! more like your little crush." Mikhael giggled with Dubrov as they pat each other on the back while I crossed my arms over my chest and sent Mal a grin.
"Get out of here you two!" Mal laughed as he pushed them inside the tent.
"You came over here, mate." One of them mocked as they disappeared behind the curtains.
"Shut up!" Mal laughed as he turned back around to face me.
I raised my eyebrow at him, demanding an explanation, which he waved off and continued walking."You just gonna drop that?" I questioned as I jogged after him.
"Yep."
I rolled my eyes and reverted my attention to a sandskiff a few feet away from us.
"Fine if you're not going to admit anything then I will." I huffed with a hint of sass as I crossed my arms over my chest and stopped walking.
Mal raised his eyebrows and turned around to stand a couple feet in front of me with his hands on his hips."What's that?"
"Please don't be mad." I signed and dropped the sassy attitude as I looked down at my boots.
"Why would I be mad?" he questioned as he looked around us.
"Don't play stupid Mal." I rolled my eyes and straightened my back.
"I'm not! What do you have to confess?" He reassured with a hint of laughter as he stepped closer.
One inch closer and I would feel his breath on my cheeks."It's about the crossing."
"What about it?"
"Everyone already has a station except for me."
"What are you trying to say (Y/N)?" He asked with worry in his voice as he dropped his arms to his sides and stepped that inch closer.
"I'm going with them across the fold."
"That can't be true." His eyes twitched as he looked deep into my orbs.
"It's too dangerous.""I don't have the choice, Mal." My voice was cracking by now.
"You always have a choice." I shook my head and looked down for a brief moment so he wouldn't see the tears forming in my eyes.
"pretend you're sick or something!""I already agreed to go!" I argued.
"I'll shot you in the foot then!" He huffed as he tried to catch my eyes with his.
I giggled and raised my head up to look at the sky, attempting to hold back tears.
"You're not leaving!" He insisted sternly and he grabbed my shoulders."I don't want to." I giggled as he pulled away and whipped his nose in thought.
"But I can't choose otherwise." I tried to explain as I reached out to him but he dodged my hand.
Looking at me one last time he walked towards the general's tent."What are you doing?" I called after him.
"I need to talk to a certain someone!"
