Smoke And Fire

It was at times like these that Dream really remembered that Sapnap was a Scorpio.

Blessed with the fire that all Scorpios held in their soul, Sapnap cared less about controlling his fire than the average pyrokinetic. While that meant that he had great fun setting small things on fire, it also meant that when he was angry, everyone knew it.

Sapnap grabbed Dream's arm so tight that it hurt, pulling him close. Fundy looked back and forth between the two, his smile dropping off his face as he took in the suddenly tense atmosphere.

"What-- ow, Sapnap!" Dream yelped, trying to tug his arm back.

The other boy didn't let go. His gaze caught Dream's and stayed there, his dark eyes smouldering-- literally. Orange and red glowed in his irises, something dangerously harsh in his stare. Soon, the entire eye was a burning bonfire, neon orange and yellow swirling around like fire in a glass marble.

"What the fuck, Dream?!" Sapnap yelled, his voice filled with the crackling of a fire. He had started to smoke, thick black smog rising from his mouth and body as his fury increased. The hand that was holding Dream's arm began to warm up, burning slowly into Dream's pale skin.

Dream cursed and jolted back, finally managing to pull away. He snatched the paper away from Sapnap as he did so, shoving it into his pocket. A dark, bruising burn had already formed on his arm, but Sapnap didn't even seem to care.

Dream rubbed at his arm, opening his mouth to explain, but Sapnap cut him off.

"No, seriously, what the fuck?!" Sapnap reached for Dream again, but he jumped a pace back, out of Sapnap's range. "Are you telling me that this-- is this really--"

Fundy's expression was caught somewhere between confusion and fear. "Are you... on fire?" he asked in a shaking voice.

Sapnap turned his glare to Fundy, snarling. Flames leapt from his mouth and hands now, lines of molten orange spreading like cracks from his Scorpio birthmark. "What do you think, Fundy?" He laughed coldly.

Dream stepped between Sapnap and Fundy, his arms spread to either side. "Calm down, Sapnap. You're burning again--"

Sapnap cut Dream off with a loud curse, looking for all the world as though he wanted to burn Dream to a crisp right then and there. "Don't tell me to fucking calm down, Dream," he snapped, fire escaping from his mouth as he spoke. The smoke began to fill the space, and Dream started to cough, covering his mouth gingerly with one hand.

People were looking in their direction, whispering frantically.

"No, nonono, I can explain," Dream hurried to say, but his words were a choked cough, barely even counting as proper Opalite.

Sapnap's expression was disgusted. "You're just using him?! Really?! I knew there was something up, but even I didn't think that you'd do something like this." He blazed in fury, his flaming hands charred black and glowing like embers.

Dream whirled around to see Fundy's expression filled with confusion, something like understanding clicking into his eyes. His mind filled with cold dread, a sudden fog that clouded everything else out. He didn't know why, but he didn't think he could lose Fundy. He just couldn't.

"Fundy, no, I'm not--" he tried to speak, but his mouth felt like cotton and his eyes were suddenly stinging. "I didn't-- I wouldn't--"

A searing heat grabbed him by the shoulder and wrenched him back around, a blackened handprint burning its mark through his cloak. Dream's thoughts went up in smoke as he cried out, the agonized sound catching somewhere between pain and distress. Fundy screamed, jumping away so rapidly he tripped over something and tumbled back onto the cobbled pathway.
