Chapter 5 - Rian and Flashbacks

I lay in a daze on the floor. Staring at the plain ceiling, I recall the events of today.

...

"What?" I exclaim.

He throws a smirk my way. Looking up I glare at him. Next thing I know a loud smack echoes throughout the cafe. Faces turn to see the cause.

The boy's face is turned to the left, mouth agape. A red hand print is starting to form.

"Jerk." I mutter under my breath. Turning I walk away. My hand stings. Tears threaten to spill.

What came over me? I've never hit someone before.

"Hey! You!" I whip around to see Drama Queen standing right in front of me pointing a finger at me. His finger is close to touching my nose.

"Yes?" I respond innocently while moving his finger away from my face.

His hand twitches at his side. "You're lucky you're a girl." He says darkly. Turning around he goes to help the green eyed boy.

The green eyed boy looks up at me. Curiosity and something else clear in his eyes. Then, a smirk lights his face up, "My name is Rian! What's your name?" Smugness clear as day.

Quickly turning around I walk away, ignoring the question lingering in the air. Questions swimming in my head.

...

My thoughts wander to his eyes. Guys that look that good shouldn't be allowed outside.

Smacking myself across the face I frantically sit up, "Elaine, what is wrong with you? He is just like all the other boys. Rude, cocky, and self absorbed. He's probably a player too. He will only break your heart and ruin your life. Just ignore him!" I desperately say aloud.

Needing some time alone I head outside of my little home and to my safe spot.

Sitting down on the soft green grass I breathe in the fresh air. Smiling as I watch birds soar through the sky.

Moving my gaze back down I watch the wind make the blades of grass dance. I lay down on my back and gaze up at the blue sky, trying to pick shapes out of the fluffy white clouds littered all across the sky.

My thoughts wander. Why was the green eyed boy--I mean Rian--so mean to me? So suddenly he was so nice? Is he bi-polar?

...

Shaking my head I come away from my thoughts. Seeing the sun begin to set I slowly stand up and head back home.

Seeing my dad in the kitchen staring into the empty pantry I walk over and lean on his shoulder.

"Hi Daddy." I whispered.

"Hi Princess. How was your day?" He asks me while still facing the empty pantry. A slight frown evident on his face.

"Fine. Annoying customers. Hard lessons. But, what's new." I try to say enthusiastically.

"That's good." he mutters while opening every drawer and cabinet. "Okay, why is there no food in this kitchen?" He exclaims while waving his arms around.

I chuckle under my breath, "Cause there is no need and we can't afford to keep the kitchen full all the time, Dad." I smile and his worried expression.

He grabs my hand and drags me to the door. "Let's go!"

"Where?"

"The market of course. We can make some chili. Like we used to." I freeze and stiffen up.

He looks back worriedly, "Princess? Are you alright?" His eyebrows crinkle.

I stiffly nod. Trying not to remember. But the flashback comes anyway.

...

Laughter.

The kitchen appears before my eyes. I see a mini me and a younger version of my dad.

Big smiles plastered on both our faces.

Beans splattered on the light brown counters and cabinets. I grab a handful of the black beans off of the counter and throw it at my dad.

Squeals of delight escape my mouth as he throws some at me.

He picks me up and sets me on the counter.

"Princess." He gives me 'the look', "You have to clean this up." My dad gestures around the kitchen.

I giggle, "You too!" I touch his nose.

He smiles at me, "Daddy! Down!" I shout. He ruffles my hair and picks me up. While picking me up he also grabs a handful of beans. Setting me down he sprinkles the beans over my head.

"It's raining!" I jump up and down with glee.

...

Tearing up I nod. He reaches his hand out. I hesitate. Grabbing his hand I smile at him, my dad.

"Let's go!" I exclaim rushing out the door.

I'm so sorry, this chapter sucks. It's more of a filler chapter and I haven't been to motivated to write. So please! Give me some motivation!
