Chapter twelve
The next few weeks go by in a blur. Not a lot has happened since that night I almost got attacked. Darek kept at me this whole time asking me if I'm okay every time we ran into each other in the house. I assured him for what felt like the 100th time, I think he was more traumatized then I was.
Mac and I have been texting each other on and off this past week. Keeping each other updated about our lives, I feel so weird that I still have to lie to her about my nana, just thinking about it makes my guy twist in guilt. But I keep reminding myself it's what's keeping my loved ones safe, and is thankful Mac still hasn't changed much and is her same usual witty self, and doesn't bring up long I'll be or if everything's okay, because she trusts me and knows my nana which makes it even harder to deal with.
I hearing someone clear their throat brings me out of my thoughts once again. I turn from the window sill I was leaning on while shoot Mac s text, to see Darek standing there with his arms crossed assessing me with his icey blue eyes. I swear he knows more about me then he's leading on. Like when he looks at me, it's so much deeper like he sees my soul. Goosebumps form on my skin just thinking about it.
He's still looking at me and not saying s word. So I start.
"Yes. Darek I'm fine for the last time." Thinking that's what he was going to say.
"Good to know. But that's. It's not why I'm in here to talk."
I move so I'm facing him more. He takes that as a sign to move in closer and puts his hands in his pockets. He seems a little nervous.
"If not that, then what is it?" I ask curious as to why he's acting so weird.
He coughs again to clear his throat. "Well I know it's been a rough couple of months now, especially after what happened a couple weeks ago. I know I agree to leave it behind and I am. So I was thinking on making it up to you."
This peaks my interest more and I sit up straight and pay closer attentions to what he's saying. "And how's that?" I say trying to keep the smile from forming.
"Tonight there is a ball happening a few hours just out of town, it's being thrown at one of my aunts estates. It'll be s big ball lots of people, especially immortals, some doctors, and scientist. Mostly very rich people. It's usual fun, there's an opened bar, and lots of food. And you get to dress up. So how does it sound."
I'm beaming from ear to ear. Finally somewhere I can be besides the grounds of this house.
"Really? When does it start."
"9:00 tonight."
I look up at the wall with the clock and see it's already 4pm.
"It's sounds great. Thanks for bringing me. I'll go and get ready now." As I rush off into my bedroom. I'm so glad I packed all of my clothes even some of my dresses and was happy for remembering to bring my makeup to.
"Meet me buy the door by 7 so we can leave Easley." Darek yells.
I take a quick shower and let my hair dry naturally as it falls down my back in loose curls. Then I go through what dresses I did bring, and found the perfect one. I do my eye in a black, brown, and gold smokey eye and sip up my dress, I fix my hair off to the side and asses myself in the floor length mirror. I am so ready to have a little fun tonight, maybe Darek will actually let loose a bit instead of always being stiff and uptight.
I look at the clock on my phone and it's 6:55pm so I put on my black sleek stiletto heels and make my way down stairs.
I get to the bottom to see Darek isn't by the door. "Darek? Don't we have to leave soon!?" I ask.
