CHAPTER ONE

"Emma!" Mackenzie yells from her closet, rummaging through the chaos of clothes. "What!" Emma yells back from her room. "Have you seen my black cocktail dress?" Emma walks to Mackenzie's closet, crossing her arms and leaning against the doorframe chuckling to herself as she watches her friend rummage through piles of clothes. "No need to yell Mac I'm right here, what did you want?" Mackenzie tosses some more clothes looking up at Emma, "my black cocktail dress, have you seen it anywhere?, I've been looking for it all morning" she stands with a huff and pushing the hair off her face.

"Yeah I thought I saw it in our laundry room, why? What's the big occasion?" Mac gets up and heads to the laundry room with Emma following behind, "do you remember that hot guy I was telling you about?" "Yeah that Ben guy you met at your work," she said watching her friend frantically search the laundry room. "Aha! There you are," Mackenzie exclaims, grabbing her dress that's hanging on the side of our laundry basket. Emma raises her brow curiously, wondering if she has ever met a more disorganized person in her life. "Yeah him. Anyways, he asked me out on a date," Mac says with a smile on her face.

Emma shakes her head at Mackenzie, and walks to grab a bottle of water from the kitchen. The kitchen is very small and plain with white walls and matching cupboards, but it's home and that's what matters. Mac leans against the kitchen island and gives Emma a questioning look, "what?" Mackenzie asks. "Nothing," Emma says as she takes a sip of her water. "No it's not nothing, it's never nothing with you, so spit it out already," she demands, crossing her arms in determination. "Fine. But don't say I didn't warn you. It's just that Ben is like the fourth guy you've dated in the past couple of months." Mac looks offended and ready for a fight but knows her friend well enough to keep her mouth shut until she is finished. "And don't get me wrong Mac I love you, you're my best friend. I just want you to be happy," with Emma's confession Mac's face softens up a little. "Anyways, why date all these guys that you know are wrong for you, when you know there are good guys out there?" Emma puts the bottle of water back in the fridge and faces her friend once again.

" I know its none of my business, I just worry sometimes that's all." Mac grabs Emma and gives her a hug. After a couple minutes she pulls away to look at her friend, "Emma you know me better then anyone, I like to have fun and keep my options open. Plus you're one to talk Hun. You don't date at all, let alone give any guy a chance."

Emma scrunches her nose up, not liking to hear the truth, but before she can argue Mackenzie cuts her off. "Listen I know, your waiting for 'the one'. You want that special connection, passionate love, the sweep you off your feet, and butterflies. But how will you ever know unless you let someone in. Trust me, all girls want that, hell even I want that!" Mackenzie shouts. After their heart to heart Emma wishes Mackenzie good luck as heads out on her date, leaving her contemplating whether what Mackenzie said was true or not. Even as she was thinking it, she knew in my heart it was.
