~~Mara~~

'Morning sweetie' my mom smiles as I walk down the stairs the following morning.

'Hey! I don't have time to stop for breakfast so I'll grab something on the way' I say, rushing around the living room.

'What's the hurry? You still have a half hour before school starts' My dad asks, placing his newspaper down.

'Well, I've got a paper I need to turn in. You know, the early bird gets the worm and all that' I reply, trying to hide the fact that in reality, I wanna get there early too see Colton.

'Will you be home for dinner tonight'? My mom asks, 'There's something we really need to talk about'.

'Ummm, I'll be home but I've got to go by the stables, I'm still tryna teach Dahlia to trust me, and that requires consistency. Is it important'? I ask, standing by the door.

'No. It can wait' Cameron replies before my parents get a chance, I walk over and give them all a hug goodbye before rushing out the door.

When I arrive at school, I immediately start scanning the hallway for Colton, until my lack of focus causes me to bump into someone, sending papers and books all across the floor.

'I am so sorry' I say, immediately crouching down on the floor and gathering all the pieces of paper.

'It's okay, darlin' I hear in a thick southern accent, and I slowly look up to see a brown haired, blue eyed boy staring down at me.

'Need a hand up'? He smiles, and I see his dimples sticking out of his cheeks as he extends his hand to me.

'Yes, please' I laugh awkwardly, accepting his offer and coming to my feet.

'I am so sorry about that. I was distracted and didn't see you coming and then next thing I knew I was knocking everything flying out of your hands' I say speedily, trying to hide my pure embarrassment, but all this gorgeous, mysterious stranger does is smile.

'You're Mara, right'? He asks.

I nod, 'I'm Logan. I was wondering when we'd bump into each other' He smiles in the most charming way possible, and I stare at him in awe.

'Mara' I hear a voice from behind me say, and I turn to see Colton stood behind me, not looking too happy.

'Ah, Colton Brown. Why am I not surprised you know the new girl' Logan laughs, and my chest tightens.

'What does that mean'? I turn back to face Logan.

'Nothing' Colton snaps, 'Let's go' he says, grabbing my arm and pulling me away.

'Hey! Let go off me' I snap, and he releases my arm from his grip as we turn the hallway corner.

'Wanna tell me what that was all about'? I ask, folding my arms.

'Don't give me sass. I was doing you a favour'.

'A favour? Who said I needed you to do me any favours'? I scoff.

'Logan's not a good guy. And someone like you shouldn't be seen around someone like him' he continues, and I sense jealousy in his tone, and the good church going girl in me tells me to stop, but, the part of me that is enjoying seeing Colton this way, tells me to continue.
