Year: Senior
This year, for homecoming week, the theme was biomes. The freshmen had the desert, the sophomores the tundra (which had a speaker that wouldn't stop playing Let it Go), the juniors the jungle, and the seniors the beach. The hallways got decorated on Monday after school, so when I got there on Tuesday, I of course looked around.
Our hallway looked a lot like a beach, and the best part about it was a stall with red solo cups and a huge jug of Hawaiian Punch that you could serve to yourself for free whenever you wanted. When I got to the junior hallway, there was this huge cardboard cutout of a gorilla, and its nametag said Harambe. And beside him were signs such as "Homecoming with Harambe" and "R.I.P. Harambe." So yeah, the juniors built a whole shrine to him.
Now, I had a friend named Claire, who went to another high school, and since her dance was on a different weekend, she decided to come with me to mine that year. I had my own crown with me, so I wore it to the dance as a joke. Besides, the homecoming queen wasn't really nice to me during freshman year, so I decided it was time to spite her. I even wore a sash around my body that said "Queen of Beauty."
For context, when I was eight, I went to that Medieval Times restaurant, we had the yellow knight, and at the part where they have to choose someone from their group to give their sash to, they picked me. I kept it ever since. Doing this at homecoming earned a few stares, but no conflicts.
Anyway, I told Claire about Harambe, and she wanted to go see the cutout really bad. So I asked one of the teachers about it, and she offered to take us there. She explained that for some reason, one of the teachers had a cardboard cutout of a gorilla, and as the school year was ending, he was asking the students to come up with a name for it, but no one could decide.
Then, a few days after the school year ended, Harambe got shot, so when we all came back to school that August, all his students agreed on that name.
When Claire and I got to the classroom containing Harambe, we had the teacher take a picture of us next to him. I'll say, that was my best homecoming ever.
A/N: Unfortunately, it looks like the rest of my images are too big for Wattpad to upload, so I'll have to post them in another chapter!
