A never-ending shower of rain poured from the black storm clouds above, splattering the crystal-clear water of an endless sea stretching to eternity in every direction. Turbulent waves crashed together, gale-force winds collided, and thunder boomed and flashed within the clouds. Despite the raging storm, the world remained familiar, yet it was different than he remembered it.
Before, the skies were clear, and the water calm. He also recalled that he hadn't been alone. As the young man surveyed the area, he was once again standing on top of the water, his bare skin unprotected from the icy winds. He brushed his long, dirty-blond hair out of his cyanic eyes, searching for the one he had been trying to save for so long. Eventually, they landed upon another form—but it wasn't the beautiful woman he longed to see.
Gone was the woman with the golden hair and green eyes he'd grown to love. In stark contrast to the smaller, curvy body he'd seen before, he now found what appeared to be a large corpse. It was unclear whether or not the body had been flayed, or if it was merely so decrepit that it accentuated every crevice in the muscles and bones. If it did still have skin, the color had all but disappeared, leaving behind a dull, gray husk of a person. Wind tousled the long mane of hair, still tethered to what could only be assumed was a decaying skull, hidden under a large straw hat and behind a white cloth with a red painted eyeball. The hair was far from beautiful; the ends were split, and the color a pure white that looked just as dead as the corpse. An old, tattered pair of trousers covered the being's waist and thighs; while ancient, gold chains and bracelets were hanging around its neck and wrists. The body was so shrunken that the cloth and gold barely clung to the carcass.
It was the embodiment of purgatory, and while initially it didn't seem to have actual eyes, it very clearly had locked its attention onto the young man who stood upon the same water as itself.
As raindrops traveled down the being's body, it took a rigid step forward, splashing the water beneath its feet. Feeling threatened, the young man instinctively raised his right hand up toward his back, yet his hand came away empty. Unable to do anything, he watched as dark magenta gunge began to ooze from the towering, mummified corpse. The crystal-clear water darkened with the malicious slime infecting its waves. As the contamination spread, the young man stepped back, doing his best to avoid getting caught in the darkness himself, but his attempt was in vain. As the being's malignance spread, the waves increased in size, violently crashing as lightning flashed down into the water. Suddenly, one wave—now dark and teeming with evil—crested higher than even the tallest of castle towers the young man once roamed. He raised his hands and closed his eyes, preparing to be engulfed in darkness.
Do you think you can save your beloved blind, hero?
The young man's eyes snapped open at the familiar voice. Though a storm was still raging, he was no longer standing on a contaminated sea, nor was he exposed to the elements. Instead, he found himself upon a large, circular arena floating amidst the black clouds. Its base was built from a deep gray stone, decorated with yellow accents, with three large pillars evenly-spaced around the perimeter of the platform. He was clad in blue, with the leather armor given to him by the one he loved most. She filled his mind as the familiar voice spoke of her.
