chapter 8: fear

The hashira meeting has ended and you all left.

You and muichirou immediately prepared and gather all your strength together, you both are not fighting a normal demon

You are fighting an uppermoon, so that means you both have to support and stick together for most of the times

Well i mean whats new? You both are used to being with each other now, what gonna happen? Will you sacrifice each other for your own selves?

You were cut from your thoughts when muichirou tapped your shoulder and showed an concerned expression, you must've been wondering in your thoughts for way too long not even bothering to talk to him so that makes him worry

"A-ah... Its okay! Im okay! Theres no need to worry about me" you smiled nervously as muichirou shows a stern expression

"No you're not." He stated. You sighed in defeat that it seems he knows you too well that you just can't lie to him anymore

"I'm just thinking that....what if.... If we will turn out like other hashiras?, Were fighting an UPPERMOON muichirou. Its not like any other demons, they killed hashiras who may be more older and skilled than us, and were just underaged teens, who has the title of the hashira" you confessed to him

He sighed also knowing that is true but he also don't wanna make you feel down
"Hey. Age doesnt matter. Do you see other demon slayers that is older than us but not yet hashiras? Why did we become an hashira if we don't have the skill? Whether we die or not, we still have to fight and kill that demon to save other people's lives, isnt that our job as demon slayers?"

You and muichirou finally arrived Kyōko village which is a lot smaller than most of the villages you have gone to, but that makes you wonder, what is an uppermoon doing here?

He was teasing you again, as much as you wanted to explain to him why you were absent minded, you just didn't bother since you know you were just gonna keep blabbering stuff or your theories to him

Plus you will need his help in this partner mission after all. Your stomach grumbled and it seems that muichirou heard that since he emitted that "pfft-" sound

He took your hand and brought you to the nearest restaurant, you blinked twice seeing the menu being so expensive and the fact that there is actually a restaurant here rather than just food stalls you eat directly outside

As muichirou pulled out the money you hold his hand and whispered "its not worth it", how can a small village have such overwhelming price

"Don't worry, I'm sure there is a reason for that, besides i brought a lot by accident,it should be okay"

He now left you to order, but you were kinda not believing him that he brought it by "accident"

Neither way, you decided to stay alert at the surroundings and observe more,you don't know if you were being too paranoid that there's an uppermoon lurking around here, or just scared of the fact that they are powerful demons that can swiftly cut you in half

That thought give you shivers and you never felt more pathetic in your life just right now

Muichirou saw you being unsettled that makes him worry, although he is hiding the fact that he is quite nervous, but he didn't let himself be intimidated already when both of you didn't see it yet

He later on made the decision to make it an takeout so you both could find a place to stay temporarily, and to also start investigating around the area if that helps you feel at ease

You soon found an apartment that the owner was kind enough to agree and make you stay for a short amount of time

After settling in, you decided to go out immediately but was stopped by muichirou

"Wait, take me with you." He stated holding your wrist. Seems like he knew you won't be able to rest until you made sure the surroundings are safe

You gave him an reassuring smile and let go of him. Yes you left him in order for him to rest, even though you wanted to explore with him....

You think this matter is "supposed" to be handled by yourself

A few hours later you have explored every hidden places,crevasses of this town, that you only have one place left.

The so called "haunted place" of the city according to the gossips around here

It has been often reported to the cops that many people went missing, got killed or any gruesome circumstances

Its just your luck that its late at night after finishing your "patrol" around the area

Thinking about going to that "haunted place" gives you chills so you just decided to go back, and explore it tommorow with muichirou

The area is filled with silent and only few lights were seen, this is just how to prove that you have gone deeper than you expected
