The next morning, I open my eyes and see Bucky peaking out the window through the blinds. Slowly, I sit up and look at him. His jacket is off and I can see the metal arm Steve mentioned shining at the small light rays peaking through the curtains.
"Is everything alright?" I whispered and Bucky turned around.
"Yes. We have to leave soon to catch a flight. Stark got it handled earlier. We have to be at the airport in an hour." Bucky says and walks over to his bag.
"Alright." I whispered and threw my legs off the side of the bed. "Thank you for letting me sleep."
Bucky paused. Like he's never been thanked for anything before. Like before, I could tell he's holding back a smile.
"You're welcome." He whispered.
The two of us get our stuff together and head to the airport, which is only a 10 minute drive from the hotel we stayed at. After getting through security, with a slight problem with Bucky's arm, the situation was handled and we made it to our gate.
I looked at the sign by the desk where we board the flight. The destination was Scotland. I've never been there but I've heard it's great.
"We're going to Scotland?" I whisper and look at Bucky with a smile.
"Like I said, it's just another stop. But yes, we're going to Scotland." Bucky whispered back.
Once on the flight, I looked out the window until we were above open water. It was so beautiful. When I turned my head, I caught Bucky looking at me, it was cute.
"How do you know how to hide so well?" I ask and lean my head against the head rest.
"Every now and then I'd get some memories back and try to escape hydra. I'd hide for as long as I wanted. I wasn't found unless I made it possible." Bucky responds.
"Why would you want to be found?" I ask.
"They were the only ones I knew who had the truth. I wanted it. So I'd go back to try and figure it out." Bucky says. "It never worked out that way."
I nodded my head. I knew what he meant.
The flight was long. We spent most of the time in silence, but when he would speak it was nice to hear his voice. I ended up falling asleep and slept the remainder of the flight.
When my eyes opened, my head was leaned on Bucky's shoulder. I move it really fast and looked at him.
"Sorry." I whispered and wiped my eyes.
"I didn't mind." He said and I smiled at my lap.
When we got out of the plane and found our bags. The airport wasn't too confusing, even though I've never been there before. Bucky got a rental car, probably already paid for by Tony, and opened the door for me like I was royalty or something.
We drove a little ways and stopped at another hotel. This one was nicer than the last. We got inside and this time it had two beds. I was relieved knowing Bucky would have a bed to rest on now.
"How long will we be here for?" I ask and throw myself on the bed.
"Four days." Bucky says and peaks out the window to take on our surroundings.
"Could we go out tomorrow? We can see the city. I've always wanted to travel..."
"No." Bucky said cutting me off. "I'm sorry but we can't risk someone seeing us out."
"Oh. Yeah it's fine." I say and throw my head back. All this traveling has made me exhausted. As soon as my head hits the pillow, I welcome the deep sleep that I was in need of.
My eyes slowly opened and I look at Bucky still sitting on the desk chair staring at the door of the room. I shift in bed and sit up on my elbows.
"Bucky? Is everything alright?" I ask and scrunch my eyes from being so tired.
"Everything's fine. Go back to sleep." Bucky says and looks back to me.
"Why don't you sleep?" I ask and sit up in the bed. "If anything happens we can protect each other. You need to sleep."
"I can sleep once I'm sure you're safe." Bucky says and faces the door again.
"You're worrying me Bucky. It's not good to stay awake like this for so long."
Bucky looks at me and I smile. I can't tell if he's mad that he has to take care of me, even if I don't need a babysitter. Bucky slowly stands up and sits on the edge of my bed.
"You don't need to worry. I'm alright." Bucky says and cups my cheek in his hand. His touch makes me nervous but in a good way.
The way he looks at me makes me think that maybe he wanted to be with me. Or at least wants to now, after getting to know me a little. I lean into his hand and close my eyes, it feels nice, I've never had someone before.
"Did you... would you want to see the stone?" I ask and smile at him.
"I'd love to." He whispered. I hold my right palm face up to him and he makes a confused look. "I don't see anything." He says and I chuckle.
"Yeah. That's the point." I say and wave my left hand over it to reveal the glowing stone.
Bucky's eyes grow wide and his jaw drops a little. It was a cute reaction, even if everyone has had that reaction.
"Can I touch it?" He asked and looks me in the eyes.
"Of course you can." I say and he reaches for my hand.
Very gently, he runs his fingers over the stone, which gives me butterflies at his gentle touch. I smile as I watch him and see his lips forming a smile. When my eyes go back to the stone, I focused and sent him a small wave of energy. He looked up to me with wide eyes.
"That's amazing." Bucky says. Without any warning, he lets go of my hand and looks at me. "You should probably not use the stone right now. Just in case those alien guys are able to track it."
I nod my head gently, a little sad that he's not touching me anymore. I look down at the sheets and play with the end of them in my hands. Bucky uses his fingers and lift my head to meet his glare.
"I didn't mean to make you upset. I think you're incredible, but I also want to keep you safe." Bucky says and I nod my head.
"You really think I'm incredible?" I ask and I'm glad it's dark because I can feel my cheeks get warm.
"Yes." Bucky whispered and shakes his head a little with a chuckle. When Bucky's eyes meet mine, I can't help but look at his lips.
"Are you going to kiss me now?" I whisper and swallow.
"Do you want me to?" He whispers back and I can feel my breath getting heavier.
"I think so." I say and take a breath. "I've never... uh..."
"You've never kissed anyone?" Bucky asked and acts surprised.
"I mean I never had anyone I wanted to kiss. I've only ever really known Nat and Tony my whole life and they never let me out of their sight." I say and I can feel myself talking too much from nervousness.
"I don't think I should be your first." Bucky says and stands up, making my heart ache.
"You don't like me like that do you? It's alright if you don't. I get it." I say and look away. "Goodnight Bucky." I whisper and lay my head back down.
I roll around and face away from him. I should've known he wouldn't want me. It's a weird feeling to be so happy and then suddenly be so sad.
"I do like you. I just want you to be sure first." Bucky whispers and walks back to his chair. "Goodnight Laura."
My eyes close again and his words help me feel a little better. I'm ready for a new day and hopefully I can try to convince Bucky to let me out of here for a little bit of time.
