The day of my parents murder was a normal one up until about seven o'clock at night. I had already finished my studies for the day and was simply lying around reading up on the history of the Battle of Hogwarts that had taken place not even two decades before. This book, though it focuses on the Battle of Hogwarts, also showed information of Harry Potter the chosen ones life. I was just learning about horcruxes when I heard an owl pecking at my window.
Opening the window I gently grabbed the owl and placed it on the top of my desk, after coaxing it to drop the letter I handed it a couple of treats and sent it on its way. Though I was expecting the letter to be for my father who works at MACUSA, Magical Congress of the United States of America, or even for my mother who has still to hear back from the paper that was requesting a time and date that they would want to meet with her about her potions work. Instead I look at the letter to find on thick brown parchment and in dark black ink with a lovely cursive handwriting, the name Liahona Jamie Belle. My name was written on this piece of parchment. I never received mail. Popping open the beautiful red and gold wax seal with a school crest I read
Dear Ms. Liahona J. Belle
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Your first semester begins on the first day of September.
Enclosed you will find a pendant with the symbol of a Gordian Knot. During the Initiation Ceremony (which includes but is not limited to the Sorting Ceremony and the Wand-Placement Ceremony), you will learn more about this Knot. For now, however, the pendant will be necessary to enter the grounds of Ilvermorny.
To accept your place in Ilvermorny, simply place the pendant around your neck. If you do not wish to attend Ilvermorny, leave the pendant in its case and send it to the Head of Admissions at Ilvermorny, Prof. Veruca Froid, via owl or similar.
Along with this letter and the pendant, you will find a list of required supplies for FiFth Year students, as well as a schedule for the upcoming school year and instructions to travel to Ilvermorny Castle.
Yours sincerely,
Deputy Headmistress Emaline Goode
After reading this I had no idea what to think, I was homeschooled my whole life ever science I was ten and three quarters. I have always wanted to go to a wizarding school though every time I had brought it to my parents attention they would shoot the idea down telling me that being homeschooled is much better for me. Hopefully I could try to reason with them this year seeing as I would be in my fifth year and would be the year I would study for my JARVEY test, Juxtaposed Assessments for Reviewing Versatile Experienced Youth. Seeing as I would have to take the test anyway to graduate as an official Witch as part of the homeschooling regulations, why would they deny me a chance to finally attend a wizarding school and be able to study and learn with peers my age.
Picking up the parchment and the pendant that had been included I went to find my mother who had recently started making dinner. I located her in the kitchen where she had been mixing up dad's favorite dish of Chicken parmesan with a side of pasta and garlic green beans.
She smiled as I pranced into the kitchen holding the pendent and parchment behind my back safe from her view until the time was right. "Mom" I started silently asking her for a few minutes of her time. She looked up from the boiling pot of pasta. "Did you need help with your studies Lia." She asked, turning towards me. "No, I finished my studies an hour or two ago." I played the pendant behind my back, nervous to bring this subject up. "Mom, I was wondering if this upcoming year I could attend the Ilvermorny. I got a letter in the mail end I think maybe if you just hear me out-"
"Lia, we go over this every year. Darling we know how much you want to attend a wizarding school but right now your father and I feel it is best to keep homeschooling you. Besides Lia you are already way ahead of your peers and can continue at home." She was not angry but frustrated that I brought it up again. She had a calm loving look about her yet stern eyes reassuring her final decision. "Lia we love you, and want what's best for you, and-" I cut her off. "If you love me you will let me go to Ilvermorny. If you love me you will respect my wishes." I took the pendant and parchment out from behind my back making them visible to my mother. "Lia, hand that over." She held out her wand ready to take them if I refused. "How many letters and pendants have been sent for me, but I haven't been there to receive them? Why wont you just let me go? What is the real reason? Hhmm?" I was angry, I was sad. I pulled the knotted pendant out of its pouch and was ready to put it on, confirming my choice to attend the Ilvermorny. Acting quick my mother waved her wand and the pendent and letter went straight into her hand. "Lia up to your room I will talk to your father about this when he gets home. I expect you to drop this by the time dinner is ready. I also want to let you know your father will be home within the hour." She kept her brown chocolate eyes stern as she pointed to the stairs. "I hate you," I muttered as I walked up the stairs. "I hate you." I say louder. And that was the last thing I ever said to my mother
