Nova

He was not a nightmare.
He was very much real this time.
Standing before me was the same masked man from the ball night I had begun to dread. His face was covered and all I could see was his ice cold blue eyes.

But, how the heck did he get here?
There was no way he could get past all the guards across the perimeter and climb twenty feet up to my chambers without being seen unless, he had someone helping him on the inside.

I could not utter a word and I stood there frozen and paralysed in fear.
He failed to kill me the last time but I wasn't sure that he would fail again this time.
"Aren't you going to say anything, pretty one? I do recall that I did not cut your tongue the last time we met" he snickered and took a few steps towards me,
"I have been dying to hear your voice again....so speak" his eyes held a serious threat now.

I could not form any words. I was too terrified to even move and this psycho wanted me to speak?

I took in deep breaths to calm down myself. My heart was beating against my chest like crazy and I could feel myself shaking in fear.
And now only one word echoed in my mind.
RUN!
So I did! I sprinted towards the door as fast as I could but, I did not make it much far. He was much faster than me.

He yanked me backwards by my hair and shoved me towards the wall. I cried in pain and tried to scream, but he pulled out a sharp dagger and held it close to my neck as a warning.

"I tried to be nice to you and you dare act smart? This is your last warning, bitch" he sneered at me, pointing the dagger in my direction.
"If you are here to kill me, just get it over with" I muttered in a defeated tone.

He started laughing like a maniac.

"I'm here to do you a favour Princess Isabella....or should I say Nova?" he answered, trailing the side of the dagger down my neck. The coldness of the metal sent a shiver down my spine and I gulped in fear.
He knows!
"You have given me quite the trouble, sweetheart" his dreadful voice brought me out of my thoughts.

"When I first learnt that you are betrothed to that weasel of a King, I sent my men to kill you. But, those weaklings failed" he said gritting his teeth in anger.

How could I forget that day when I had witnessed the gruesome and bloody sight of Nicholas tearing apart those men without any mercy.

"I set out to hunt you down. I would have killed you the previous night, if not for the information I received from my sources which said that Princess Isabella was in Alps of Carebes. I spared you and began my journey to the Alps. Then I saw the princess with another man and her striking resemblance with you and I knew it wasn't the princess, Nicholas was betrothed to, but a mere ordinary lass" he crackled in glee.

"After all these years, I have found something that he really cares about" he looked at me and licked his lips.
Oh no!
"Ha! You are wrong. Nicholas doesn't care about anyone, not even me" I said as confidently as possible.
He laughed creepily.
"There is only one way to find out"

He clapped his hands and two men holding torches lit with fire jumped into my chambers from the balcony.
They quickly began lighting fire everywhere in the room and I shook my head in fear.

"NO! Stop this madness" I screamed, but he quickly covered my mouth with his palm and snickered at me.
I knew that the tiny flames here and there would soon turn into an enormous fire which would devour every possible thing in this room.
"Pretty one, I'm doing you a favour, believe me" he chuckled darkly.
"I want to know if Nicholas would risk his life and jump into the fire to save his little pet. If he does, then I know that I have discovered his only weakness and you would know how much you mean to him"
