Chapter 5: Cold Beauty

<Rose's POV>

HolyMotherOfCookiesAndMilk.

I was staring so hard at Nathan, the school's bad boy, that I was surprised my eyeballs hadn't popped out and rolled away like marbles yet.

And my neck was hurting from looking up so long.

What the hell was he doing up a TREE??

Scratch that.

HOW THE HELL DID HE GET UP THERE???!!!!!

I opened my mouth to ask him if he had jumped out of a window from the 3rd floor.

But the tree's too far away from any window.

Did he use some really really tall ladder?

But there's nothing of the sort nearby.

Is he ok? Should I help him?

But why do I care?

I dunno, maybe because it's just so FREAKIN WEIRD?!

Nathan's face turned into an amused expression when he saw me opening and closing my mouth like a goldfish out of its fishbowl.

I should say something.

Should I?

"Wow, you look like that crazy Gollum guy from the Hobbit. You have his eyes"

I shook my head and tried to get the shocked, wide-eyed expression off my face.

Nathan smirked at me and although he was so high up I could still tell he looked mouth-watering delicious when he did that.

Wait, what did I just call him?

And his voice was so...

Wait what did he call ME?

I realized that I was still staring at him with my eyes popping out of my head and tried to put a normal expression on my face.

I failed.

Plan B.

"Ha-ha, I'm sorry Jack, but I was just surprised. That's not the beanstalk you're supposed to climb"

"I'm sorry Gollum, can't hear you up here"

Nathan put a hand to his ear and made a mock-sad face.

"Who the hell is Gollum?!" I snapped.

"Whoa easy there love, you sure you can say that?"

"What?"

Ok now I'm confused.

"Anyway, don't you think you should go back inside? Students aren't supposed to be here"

Nathan said the last words in a mocking tone and rolled his grey eyes.

He stood up and began jumping, JUMPING down from branch to branch.

WHAT IS HE A MONKEY WITH MAD NINJA SKILLS?!!

He hopped from one branch to another, coming down to the lowest branch. The poor thing bowed under his weight, resulting in Nathan coming to face-level with me as he crouched down.

This was my first time seeing him up so close. I was so mesmerized by his looks that I couldn't even move away when Nathan brought his face closer to mine. So close, that I could feel his breath softly fan over my face.

Never in my life had I seen a boy with a face as beautiful as his.

His skin was smooth and flawless, stretching over his firm cheekbones and jaw in perfection.
