~~

A bloody scream echoed through the Malfoy's large presence, waking a sleeping girl with long brown hair from the world of dreams. Abraxas and Taraphina's parents had been away for the last two weeks of the summer holidays before Abraxas' seventh year and Taraphina's sixth year. It so happened that Abraxas Malfoy invited Leo Avery, Louis Lestrange, Theodore Nott, Samuel Rosier and Tom Marvolo Riddle to the grand mansion. Taraphina loved her big brother but hated his friends to the marrow of her bones, most of the time anyway. It was complicated...
They were all so conceited, stuck-up and treated her like a little kid, even though she was only a scant year younger. She hated it when they were so condescending with her; constantly having to put up with someone ruffling her hair, making jokes about her height or worst of all just pretending she wasn't there.
After the shortest time she had to spend with the boys, she learned how much pleasure it gave her to annoy them. She found particular pleasure in annoying Tom Riddle with the smallest things. He was always polite and self-possessed, but the longer she danced on his nose, the closer he too came to the limits of his self-control. Of course, she also knew about his rather interesting plans and views. She even shared his views, not in quite such a brutal way, but she was definitely not averse to them.... So it was nothing new for the pale-skinned girl to wake up to painful screams ; the only positive thing about being woken up this way was that she had such a good reason to be annoyed all day. This way she could shout at as many of Abraxa's friends as possible and complain about everything. She knew that such behaviour was not really appropriate, her parents had said that often enough, but if she got always treat like a little child, she might as well act like one.

Still with her eyes closed, she lay under the warm silk sheets. The sun was already shining through the large windows, but her motivation to move from the warm bed was severely limited. Only when a voice that obviously belonged to Tom Riddle shouted her name she briefly opened her eyes. She considered going downstairs, but quickly decided against it. If he wanted something from her, he should come to her, she certainly wouldn't, after all she wasn't a stupid dog who did everything he was told. She pulled the blanket up under her chin and turned onto the other side. Satisfied, she closed her eyes and enjoyed the silence for a moment, but it was broken by the loud ripping open of a door.

"Tara, get up," he said in a cold voice, "we have a lot to do today."

Only a low, annoyed groan escaped her lips.

The handsome young man still standing in the doorway merely rolled his eyes.

"Better not let me repeat it, darling," his voice sounded a little dangerous, but not dangerous enough to convince Tara to leave her bed. He had never really cared for her before, he only tolerated her because she was the sister of one of his most loyal followers, Abraxas Malfoy.

"What do you want Riddle?" she asked sullenly, still burying her face in the pillows.

"What makes you think I want anything from you darling?" he asked calmly as he paced the room and sat on the edge of the bed next to Tara.

"Don't be ridiculous Riddle. You've never been interested in me, I'm only with you all the time because I'm Abraxas' little sister and all I do is fool around on my own," she stated in a still sleepy voice and tired eyes.

"Oh darling..." he began to brush her hair out of her face and then slowly trace the contours of her cheekbone, "... it's sad to hear how little you are capable of."

Tara knew she had better not engage in the touch from the handsome man, but she did anyway. Sometimes she just needed a little attention and she didn't get it often. Her parents loved her but never showed any kind of affection. Since her parents forbade her contact with others outside Abraxas friend group since the last school year, she had to live with what she had. The only affection she got was partly from her big brother, but he had been getting busier and busier lately and so she also satisfied with the affection of Tom Riddle. Still tired, she turned to Riddle and lay closer to him. He was no fool and knew what she desired. A grin formed on his face as he leaned against the headboard of the large bed and pulled her head against his chest. Immediately Tara snuggled against his warm chest and listened to his soothing heartbeat.
