Overprotective - A Nalu Fan Fic

Chapter Thirteen

~Natsu's POV~

Today we pick our fates.
We choose who will fight beside us.
And our choice could affect our future title.

It's been about a week since the participants have been chosen, and a few days since I held Lucy in the kitchen.

I have been stuck to Lucy's side, not literally, but I have stayed by her side as much as I can without annoying her before we are forced to split for the trials.

And now I'm sitting here in the guild, watching everyone trying to choose their partners.

I of course chose my little buddy happy, for many reasons, one being that if something were to happen I could get to Lucy quick, another being he has always been there for me and I trust him fighting alongside myself.

I turn my head to see Lucy jump out of her seat.

~Lucy's POV~

As soon as a certain blue-haired someone got settled in their seat, Gajeel and I turned our heads to look at each other.

As Gajeel gets ready to get up, I look behind him.

"Lily? Is that your girlfriend?" I teasingly ask the empty air behind him. Which works because Gajeel quickly looks behind himself, giving me an opening.

I spring out of my seat and dart towards Levy.

"Levy! Do you want to be my partner?" I ask quickly before Gajeel can interrupt.

"Sure Lu!" Levy said excitedly.

Levy was a participant last year, but because of her "bad performance" even though I think she did amazing, she was replaced by Gajeel. Although, she doesn't look sad she was replaced, but more or less, she looks happy.

Happy that she didn't have the pressure of needing to exceed as a wizard, she is able to stay in her magic comfort zone.

"Thanks Lev" I say as I turn around, shoot a victory smile at Gajeel, then sit back in my seat.

One of the reasons I asked before Gajeel could, was because maybe, if I keep them apart for only a tiny bit, they will want to see each other more.

I only have good reasons for picking Levy. She is strong, very much capable, an amazing problem solver, she's like a peacekeeper, she is very smart, and overall she is my amazing best friend.

~Natsu's POV~

Gramps walks out on the stage, his hands clasped behind his back.

"Brats, have you chosen your partners yet?" He asks, earning a nod from all the participants, including me.

"Okay, Cana?" gramps asks.

"Lisanna" Cana says with a smile as she takes another drink of her booze.

"Gray"

"Juvia, I guess" Gray answers, obviously being a tsundere since he chose her.

"Thank you Gray-sama!!" Juvia thanks ice princess with a smile.

"Elfman"

"Evergreen, she's a real man!" Elfman yells.

"I'm not a man!!" Evergreen yells as she smacks Elfman with her fan.

"Wendy"

"Romeo" Wendy says, confident in her choice.

"Freed"

"Bixlow, same as last year" Freed informs gramps.

"Natsu"

"My little buddy Happy" I say as I lightly pat Happy's head.

"Lucy"

"Levy" Luce tells master with a bright smile which brights up the whole room, not literally.

"Gajeel"

"My cat Pantherlily, since bunny-girl stole my partner" Gajeel says grumpily.

"Whoops" Lucy says innocently in response, even though she purposely chose Levy.

I laugh quietly at her oh so innocent response.

"Good choices brats, pack your things, we leave in three days" Master informs us as he walks off stage.

That being said, we all get up and walk out, me walking with Lucy.

As we arrive back in her apartment, I plop onto her couch. And unexpectedly she plops beside me.

She looks at me.

"Movie?" She asks.

I nod. And she gets up, grabs a random movie from her shelf, puts it in, comes back, and sits on my lap facing away from me. I of course wrap my arms around her, happy to be holding my angel. She relaxes and leans back into me. And we start watching our movie.
