SAM:
"Oh wow, how can you be so good at this already?!", I whine as he walks toward me with a smirk holding his golf club in one hand and the ball in the other.
"I just can't help it", he brags casually shrugging his shoulders.
I roll my eyes and nudge him as I walk past to have my go.
Will and I had come to a local mini-golf course to wind down and chill after a tedious week of school and work. It had been a week since Will's birthday party and he was still reeling from the excitement of it.
I angle my club and give it the lightest tap possible. On my last go, I accidentally hit it so hard that it went right past the hole and off the course, Will couldn't stop chuckling after that.
This time it barely moved forward, coming to a stop just a few steps in front of me. I let out a sigh in frustration and go to hit it again.
"You're doing it all wrong, you need to hit it more firmly in the beginning and then smaller taps as you get closer", Will spells out as he slurps his coke.
I amend my posture and go to hit the shot before I am interrupted by Will once more. He walks over to me and wraps his arms around my back, grabbing onto the club and placing his hands over mine.
I automatically stiffen due to his sudden closeness but then slowly lean into his warmth. I let out a sigh and stop myself from reclining into his welcoming chest. All the words of direction coming out of his mouth are a blur and all I can focus on is the lack of space between us and the familiar scent of his which encompasses us both. He has such a strange effect on me, he has the ability to send all my emotions into overdrive and make me feel as though my heart is throbbing at the back of my throat but he is the person who I feel the safest around. I'm comfortable and at peace around him, it's almost like over the years I've known him he has become a part of me.
Someone I couldn't live without.
"And then you just do that and hit it", he spells out nonchalantly, continuing to grasp my hands. He moves my hands in a slight flicker motion and the ball rolls into the hole.
"Hey! I did it", I turn and give him a smile.
He returns it before adding, "More like I did that".
I wonder if he felt that too.
"Uh, we both did it okay?", I defend myself, trying to keep calm and see if he realised that I'd zoned out.
He laughed it off and we moved on to the next course.
The majority of the afternoon consisted of us going around the course, laughing at each other mostly because I repeatedly tried to distract him whilst he was taking his shot, it worked a few times. But of course, he still managed to win.
Small turquoise man-made waterfalls are placed across the grounds, creating little streams that run through the course. The sun had begun to drop in the sky, weighted by today's activities, when my stomach let out a light growl.
"Wanna grab a bite from Paradish and head to the park?" I suggest giving my stomach a little stroke.
"Sure, let's do it! Bus?" he shrugs on his jacket and we make our way to the exit.
"Let's go, I need food", I grab his hands and we made a run for the bus station.

By the time we reached the park, the sun's light was muffled by some grey clouds. But knowing British weather, the sun would be shining in a few minutes or we might even be caught in the rain.
