I woke up with my head up against a cold window, to the voice of the conductor. The train was pulling up to the station in Tulsa.
You are a total idiot, I thought to myself while stepping off the train and onto the platform. How are you going to find him?
I stepped out onto the streets of Tulsa as the sun beamed brightly overhead. With my backpack slung lazily over one of my shoulders, I began to walk aimlessly around town. Soon, I stumbled upon a cheap motel. I checked into one of the rooms, left my things behind and went to go find somewhere to eat dinner.
I soon found a diner, the Dingo, and decided to stop to eat there. I slid into one of the booths and waited for someone to take my order. I scanned the room, noticing the separation between the people. This place seemed to be filled with the lower class civilians, dressed in black leather jackets and greased back hair. The girls dressed in tight and revealing clothes, some wearing shirts that made their boobs spill out, not that I minded. There were few preppy kids. They were all more refined looking and their clothes were much cleaner and lighter. Those kids received dirty looks from practically everyone else.
My thoughts were interrupted by a group of kids who walked in. One was tan with greased bangs that fell over his forehead and big brown eyes. He had a scar on his cheek and wore a jean jacket. The next one had black hair that was greased back, showing off his green eyes. He wore a tank top. I wondered how he wasn't cold in just that.
Finally, there was one boy. He had fluffy, dark hair. Unlike the others, he had no grease in it. He wore a brown leather jacket. My eyes paused on his chain.
Where have I seen that before, I thought to myself. It seemed so familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it just yet.
I looked back up and that's when our eyes met.
Dallas.
I would recognize his eyes anywhere, and it seemed he had recognized mine as well.
"Y/N?" he said after reaching my table, his brows furrowed in confusion.
"Hey Dal," I answered, sending him a smile.
He slid into the seats in front of mine. The two other boys followed and wore puzzled expressions. Their eyes darted between each other, Dallas and I.
"Y/N Winston," I said, reaching across the table to shake their hands.
"What are you doing here?" Dallas questioned.
"Wow Dal, I missed you too. I'm doing good, thanks for asking." I sassed, rolling my eyes.
"Uhh... Ponyboy, Johnny, this is my sister Y/N." he said as he gestured to each of the boys.
"You have a sister?" Ponyboy asked.
I gasped dramatically and threw my hands over my heart, faking that I was hurt. Dallas smiled before talking once again.
"So, you gonna tell me why you're here or what, man?" he said, still smiling.
"Eh, I don't know I guess I just got bored of New York, so I decided to come find you. Found a postcard in one of dad's drawers from here so I just left." I shrugged.
"Don't you got school?" he questioned.
"No, not really," I mumbled, trying to avoid telling him I got kicked out.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"You know, I just got here and you haven't even greeted me properly. I expected an 'I miss you' or something at least." I smirked, knowing it would bother him. There's no way he would say that to me with his friends around.
Before he could ask me more questions, my waiter came and dropped my food off, then taking the boys' orders. He shot me a quick wink, earning a deathly glare from Dallas. That told me he still cared about me.
We all talked for a while longer until all of us had eaten.
"Hey, we were going to go to the drive-in, wanna come?" Johnny asked.
"Sure," I answered.
Once we had paid, we began to walk to the movies. Ponyboy and Johnny walked ahead. Dallas had his arm around my shoulder. We weren't talking but the silence between us was comfortable.
"I missed you," he whispered, squeezing my arm a little, like a hug.
"I missed you too," I smiled and leaned my head on his shoulder.
