HgA/N: this is what happened when two people were outside and bored, and found green pinecones on the ground. Btw, somehow, Wilbur Soot came into this story. Wilbur, if you're reading this, we're so sorry.
It was a dark day in Pineconian history. The great village of Pine Tree had been bombed, the fire was spreading throughout the town. The sorrowful screams of pinecones yet to die rung through the air. A young family of pinecones was visible through the window of a burning house, two laying dead, leaving their only son an orphan. The child cried, cried in hopes that someone may save his late parents. Though through the raging fire, nobody heard a sound.
The fire was done, soft embers glided through the air. A shepherd, who had come across the village while making his way to see the king, barely heard the cries of a young pinecone. He searched through the rubble, determined to save the child. Whatever had happened to this village was severe, not only was everything burnt, but there were countless bodies strewn across the pavement. Finally, the shepherd caught a glimpse of green amongst the soot. The cries grew louder as he walked toward the burned down house.
"Hello?" He peered over a table covered in ash, the young pinecone shivered. The shepherd looked around the child, noticing the bodies of what were his parents. "Are you alone, child?" The pinecone looked up at him with fear, nodding slowly,
"My parents are hurt..." The pinecone whimpered. The shepherd looked down at the child, picking it up.
"I may not be able to save your parents, but I promise I'll save you..." The shepherd swore, "Do you have a name, son?" The pinecone shook his head. "Then I shall give you one, Jared."
-Time Skip of 5 Years-
"JARED!" The shepherd called out, "I have a task for you." Jared looked up from his writing,
"Yes, father?" He stood up and made his way over to his father, who was standing next to what appeared to be a fallen branch. "What is it?"
"This," The shepherd began, "is the Staff of Power." he put a hand on the staff. "It was carved years ago, only the greatest of warriors may lift it..." Jared stepped closer to the staff,
"But why call me here?"
"Because I believe you hold the ability to lift the staff," The shepherd guided Jared's hands to the staff.
"There's no way I'll be able to lift this!" Jared exclaimed, "This staff is taller than any pineconian I've ever seen!" the shepherd looked at Jared with pride,
"Lift."
Jared repositioned his nonexistent hands on the staff. He took a deep breath and lifted the staff above his head.
