Two days later I was dismissed from the hospital. Officer Smith and Officer Jones escorted me to my apartment. I was given 1 hour to pack my bag and only the “essentials”. I grabbed all my designer clothes that hung in my closet and grabbed my shoes that filled up most of my suitcase. I than grabbed my phone and computer. I seriously couldn’t last a day without my phone it’s my life! I walk out of my apartment, my suitcase overflows with clothes and shoes hanging out the sides. Officer Smith looks at me and shook his head.
“You’re taking all of that crap?”
“Yes I am” I replied as I strutted past him my heels clicking on the marble floor for possibly the last time.
“Whatever princess” I heard him whisper under his breath
I strutted down to the lobby and my phone buzzed in my pocket. I took it out and glanced at the screen. It was a number I didn’t recognize. The text read
“Don’t try to run. I have my sights set on you! Love your friend from the ally.”
I stared at the screen in bewilderment. How in the world did the creep get my number? Officer Jones came up behind me and touched my shoulder. I jumped and let out a sound that was similar to a small dog being stepped on.
“Are you okay Miss Anderson?”
My brain was in a panic and I just stood there with my mouth open and pointing at the illuminated screen. Officer Jones removed the phone from my hands and read the text message. He than handed the phone to Officer Smith. They stood next to each other and talked in whispers. Officer Jones walks back over to me with a fake smile plastered to his face.
“I’m going to need all your electronic devices”
“Why?”
“The man that tried to abducted you in the ally has some how been able to find your phone number. We would love to see if we could track the number back from your phone and try and apprehend the man and bring him to justice.” Officer Jones answered back.
“So… I wont have my phone?” I asked puzzled.
“Not this phone at least.”
“WHAT???? That phone is my LIFE!” I screamed as my launched myself toward my phone in his hands.
Officer Jones evaded my suddend move for my phone and stepped to the side. I fell to the floor in a heap. I gave the officer my best death glare but he paid me no attention. Officer Smith came over and helped me to my feet.
“We must leave now Miss Anderson. I will give you your new identity packet in the car as we drive to the airport.”
He led me sternly to the car waiting outside and we got in.
We drove to JFK international airport and boarded a Privet jet with blacked out windows similar to the ones you see on spy shows. Officer Smith handed me a yellow envelope stamped Top Secret across the top. I climb the white stairs and struggle awkwardly with my luggage behind me. I made it up and settled into the white over stuffed plane seat. I picked up the envelope and opened it. It contained everything. Inside was a phone, but not just any phone, an old, decrepit, slider phone.
This is not happening! I said to myself. I should be partying with A-list celebrities or chilling in my luxury penthouse apartment not on some plane to god knows where. I fumble around in the envelope and a small notecard falls to the ground I pick it up. Written on it is McGraw Ranch, Amor Springs Colorado in perfect cursive. I stuff the notecard back in the envelope and pull out a letter addressed to me.
Dear Miss Anderson,
Welcome to the witness protection program. This is only to protect you from any dangers due to your recent encounters. You will be staying with the McGraw family in Amor Springs Colorado. You will be safe there we have also included in the envelope your new name which will be Sam Hart. You aren’t allowed to tell anyone about your real name or the investigation. Remember this is just to keep you safe. We will check in on you periodically. Good Luck Miss Hart.
Signed Officer Smith
U.S. Marshall
I closed the letter and leaned back in my chair. The fasten seat belt symbol came on and the caption announced our decent into Amor Springs.
