I sat up in my hospital bed and winced through the pain that I felt shoot through my body. The Officers came in and stood next to my bed. Officer Jones looked over at the nurse that was arranging things on the other side of the room. He cleared his throat loudly and shot her a glare. She nervously looked around the room and hurried out the door locking it behind her.

“How are you feeling miss, Anderson?” asked officer Jones,

“ I’ve been better” I replied, I sat up slowly, My body still screamed whenever I moved but it had gotten slightly better since before my nap but still hurt like hell.

Officer Jones stood at the bed rail near my head and continued to talk. He had graying hair and looked to be in his 60’s. He had to be around 5 foot tall and I’d towered over him if I stood beside him.

“ We understand that you have had a very stressful week and we are just here to help piece this case together” Officer Jones continued his rant.

“ Sorry to interrupt you officer but all I really want to do is go home and call my company and tell them ill be out for a few days” I said cutting off Officer Jones.

Officer Smith stood quietly at the foot of the bed. He had dark hair and didn’t look any older than 30. He had to be around 6 foot tall and was very attractive. He looked up at me and with a face that showed no emotion said

“Listen miss Anderson, you can't just go back to how your life was before, that man that tried to take you almost killed and that women that you had found in the ally”

I stared at the officer. Everything was slowly sinking into my head. I stared into his dark eyes and was speechless.

“w..w..what am I going to do?” I stuttered. I felt hot tears start to form in the corners of my eyes.

“Miss Anderson we are officially placing you in the witness protection program, this is just to keep you safe from the man that was at the scene of the crime. We are afraid the man may try to come after you to…get rid of the “evidence”.”  Officer Smith Said back to my question

“YOU CANT DO THAT” I screamed. “ I HAVE A LIFE HERE” I thrashed out in anger at Officer Smith.

Officer Jones took me by the shoulders and restrained me from hurting Officer Smith. He gently guided me down to my mattress. My muscles fought but the pain soon took back over and I let officer Jones strong hands return me to the soft hospital mattress.

“ You have no choice Miss. Anderson” Officer Jones said with a gentle deep voice similar to parents use to lull their children to a place of bliss.

“ You will be shipped out to an undisclosed location until the perpetrator is caught and brought to justice. You may gather a few personal belongings from your apartment then we will erase all evidence of you ever stepping foot in New York.” Officer Smith said moving from the foot of the bed and heading for the door. Officer Jones followed and headed for the door. The heavy wooden door slammed behind them and I finally felt tears run down my face. Good bye New York.
