"Let's split and look around! Make sure you check every corner and-" Tanjiro heard a familiar voice from a distance. "There, I see them. Get the medkit and my tools now!" Shinobu ordered her crew as she approached the scene.
The first one to grab Shinobu's attention was her adoptive sister Kanao, knocked unconscious on the ground with blood staining her hair and uniform. "Kanao! No... What happened.." Shinobu spoke in panic as her eyes quickly scanned her for any fatal damages.
"S-Shinobu san.. T-Tomioka san.." Tanjiro spoke as he weakly pointed to the fallen Hashira. Normally Shinobu would come rushing to his aid, but this time it was different.
Shinobu was a well-educated and trained medic, she could tell easily if someone could still be saved, or whether it was too late for them to come to his rescue. She stood up and froze for a few seconds. She felt like crying but nothing came out. All the 'what-ifs' started to storm her mind, but none of them mattered at this point.
It was too late.
Slowly approaching the man she fell to her knees and removed Kanao's white now red cloak from Tomioka's chest. The wound was fatal and he should've been long gone. "Shinobu-sama, I'm deeply sorry-" one of her crew members spoke before Shinobu raised her hand to stop her.
"I refuse. I refuse to believe so until we get him back to the butterfly mansion then I will state the time and cause of death myself. As for now, I refuse." Shinobu replied quite sternly.
Everyone knows how Shinobu was. She was the expert of hiding her true feelings behind her serious yet warm persona. But this... This was honestly a bit much, even for the master herself.
She gently slipped her palm behind his head, she could feel the blood on the back of his head, not to mention his hair was chopped off to a messy shoulder-length cut from the fight. She knew she wanted to say something, but nothing came to mind.
She was never prepared for this, no one was. She had nothing prepared for such an incident and all she could do was... accept it. Accept that she was too late and that the time for Tomioka had come.
