Ahana's POV:-Today is my cousin's mehndi. I was so tired because of the jetleg but my mother dragged me here as it will not look good for me to not attend.
"Oh my god, Anu what a surprise" exclaimed my other cousin Roshni.
I hugged her before settling down. Sristy was occupied with her mehndi.
"So how's life in delhi. I am sure you are enjoying it" Roshni asked.
"Well it's good. If attending back to back lectures is your definition of fun then yup" I replied making everyone laugh.
After catching up with them for some more time, I moved to where sristy was getting her mehndi done.
She smiled seeing me but her eyes were telling some different story. Shouldn't she be happy as it's her wedding.
"Why are you looking so gloomy. Any problem" I asked her.
She looks shocked at my question.
"It's just, I am not sure if I am ready for this marriage. I am scare." She expressed her feelings looking disturbed.
I frown at her. I mean tomorrow evening it's her wedding and here she is still not sure about it. Why the hell even she agreed for it in the first place.
"Are you kidding me. If you are not sure then why the fuck are you entertaining this whole thing " I asked her seriously.
Something is wrong with this girl. I took her hands in mine forgetting that her mehndi is still not dry. I looked at my hands where now ADH are smudged.
Sristy looks at it then at her mehndi before chuckling.
"You got my soon to be husband's initials on your hand" she told me.
I took some tissue paper rubbing it off but till then the mehndi has done its job.
"You know what am going to wash this and you miss you should talk to your soon to be husband about your ongoing problem. I am sure it will help you" I suggested her before leaving.
******
Whole house is full of hustle bustle. Aunty and mama are running from here to there shouting orders. About me, I am sitting eating nachos enjoying the live show telecasting in my house.
"Anu, what are you doing here. Only 2 hours are left. You should be in saloon with others to get ready" my mother scolded me.
I roll my eyes at her words. I don't need any beautician to get ready.
"Offo mama, chill. I will get ready on my own. Don't worry. You sit here and take rest. Till then I will look after everything." I make her sit along with Reema aunty.
It was 7 in the evening. Everybody has left for the venue but I am still home because I was not ready.
As I was about to change in my dress my phone rang. Dad was calling me.
"Papa, I will be there in 10 minutes" I said soon as picking the call.
"Anu come fast now." He sounded worried.
"Dad what happened. Are you.." I started but he didn't let me finished.
"You just come here now" he said and cut the call.
I pick up the car keys and left for the venue. In 7 minutes, I was there. You should praise my driving skills.
I entered the hall to find it pack with people. Shit, baraat is here.
I run towards the room where my family must be. I knock before entering to find uncle sitting on the couch with his head down, Aunty crying sitting beside him.
Mama, papa were looking equally worried. There was a elderly women same as mama's age looking disturbed too. A guy in golden sherwani with his back towards me.
"Mama papa, what's the matter? Why are you all looking tensed" I asked gaining their attention.
All heads turns towards me but I was looking at papa for some explanation.
"Thank God you are here Anu." Mama said looking relived.
"What happened? Why is aunty crying?" I asked again.
"Your cousin sristy is not here. She is missing" said papa shocking me.
"Ohh.. so you want me to look for her. Okay I will go and look outside" I said moving towards the door.
"No anu, she ran away."
Papa's words halted me. Oh my god, she ran away from her wedding.
"Wow... I mean how? Why?. Did she informed someone about it" I bite my tongue for the slip-up.
Dad showed me the letter where she had wrote the same lines which she told me yesterday. This girl, how could she do this something like this.
"So now what are we gonna do" I asked after composing myself.
Mama and Papa shared a look with the unknown women before looking at me with hope.
"Anu, we want you to marry Mrs Goenka's son." Mama said giving me a heartattack.
I looked at her then at papa hoping it would be a joke but their expressions tells otherwise.
"What? Mama it's not a joke. How can you ask me to do something like this. I mean I can't marry someone else husband. I am just 21 with lots of dream for my future. I want to fulfill them. You can't do this with me." I bursted out.
I can't believe they will ask me something like this to do.
Papa came to me holding my hands.
"Anu bacha try to understand. It's about our family's reputation.""Why me then? You can ask Roshni or someone else. Why me papa" I shouted listening to their emotional blackmail.
"Lower your voice Ahana. You can't talk like this with your father." Mom told me strictly.
"Exactly mom, you guys can't expect me to agree for this marriage. It's my life and I am not gonna ruin it"
"Anu, I haven't ask anything from you till now. Whatever you wanted from the start we fulfilled your every wish. Today it's your turn to fulfill our wish. Please Anu for your papa. For our reputation please accept this" papa was on the verge of tears.
I was crying too but I can't see my father like this.
"Fine, I will marry him. But you have to promise me that I will get to fulfill my dream. I will get to complete my graduation in delhi." I said.
"Sure beta, No-one will stop you" It was mrs Goenka who spoke this time for the first time after all the drama.
I nodded before looking at the guy standing beside her to find Mr. Rude. He was here in golden sherwani staring at me.
You got to be kidding me. He is the groom. My life is doomed.
He averted his eyes from my face to my attire before looking at me again.
I looked at my attire before facepalming myself. I was in my jeans with my lehnga's blouse and bunny slippers.
I was embarassed but hey you can't blame me for it. I was in hurry. I glare at him before looking towards my family who were giving me small smiles.
How am I gonna tell this to my friends that I am the one who got married. Fuck it, how the hell am gonna put up with this whole marriage fiasco.
God please save me.
