There's something so terribly amazing about success. The soothing comfort of the letter A is something Iris has found comfort in since childhood. The confidence of it, the knowing that she can get no better. She's at the top.

At this rate, she'd graduate valedictorian, get into the top med school in the country, make more money than she's ever seen in her life.

It's another test she can send home to her parents and in return get nothing. Iris still doesn't know why she continues to do so knowing that nothing she did will ever pry so much as a "good job" from their lips or warmth from their gazes. Excellence wasn't rewarded because it was expected.

"Don't slouch, Iris. Back straight or people will think poorly of you."

"Make sure your hair is always immaculate or they'll think you're dirty and unkept."

"You need to earn the best grades or people will think you're stupid."

Don't play into their preconceived notions and stereotypes or that's just how you will be treated in life. She must reach perfection in every facet of life and anything other would mean the disappointed gazes of her parents who have gone through more than enough hardships in such a homogeneous country such as this one.

Iris slaved over her work, her studying. Made herself fucking miserable for a future without such. At some point, when she's finally conquered the world, she'll finally get those sacred words to leave her parents' lips.

"We're proud of you."

A pipe dream.

The moment Iris left her exam room, Jungkook managed to sniff her out like a hound dog.

"Noona~" Jungkook's voice sings from behind her and his arm comes to weigh down on her shoulders. He holds her close and in comfortable confidence. He walks with Iris, matching her pace in stride as they make their way through the corridor. He waves his hand in her face. "How'd you do on your exam?"

"Do you just wait outside of my room until I get out of class?" Because God knows Jungkook doesn't attend his actual classes unless it's cooking related.

A culinary major. He must want to be a chef though- Jungkook's never said as much.

He doesn't answer her, but his silence serves as one for Iris.

Yes.

"I know you got a good score. My noona is so smart." He coos. "Being smart is very, very sexy to me, y'know?"
