~ Chapter 7 ~

~ Asami's POV ~

He watched quietly as his mate finished up his work. It had been fun learning different things that it took to run the pack. Daemon would have been finished an hour ago but his beta busted in with two of their enforcers. Enforcers were basically the equivalent of police, as well as the head of the packs warriors. Yet another thing Daemon had explained to him earlier today. Apparently a small pack of rogues ( Shifters, in this case wolves, that for one reason or another, most likely for criminal offenses, are no longer part of an actual pack band together to try and steal other packs land or just to kill off others for no good reason.) were spotted in the eastern part of the pack lands. The warriors had tried to chase them down but they kept flirting with the pack border. As long as they were not on pack lands they were not a problem but when they started attacking the patrols it became apparent that they needed to be dealt with.

Daemon looked over the territory map, listening as the one of the enforcers pointed to where the rogues were spotted. Curiosity won over and Asami stood to see the map. He hadn't meant to say anything but his sudden "wow" caught everyone off guard. He was so surprised by the size of the pack land that it just kind of slept out. He knew pack lands could be large, but Teal River's pack land was huge. Just from a glance it looked like the border of their land was a good thirty miles in any given direction. It was very impressive to say the least. "Impressed?" One of the enforcers asked, to which he could only nod. "How many did Eric say their was?" Daemon asked Sam. "Seven, but they managed to take one out before they crossed the border again." Sam informed him. Daemon sighed and sat back in his chair before looking over at him.

"Asami, you are not to leave the pack house." Daemon said to him, catching him off guard. He had zoned out and was lost in his own little world while looking at the map. "What why not?" He half pouted, hating the idea of being cooped up in the pack house. He still wasn't used to being around this many werewolves and it was stressing him out. Daemon had made it clear to the pack not to crowd him, but still it was at time overwhelming. Especially when the pack house was busy. Meal times were the hardest for him, but the pack did their best to give him room. He wanted to go into town or something, just to get away for even an hour. How he wished he could go back to hiding in his small apartment, however he could not and Daemon would never agree. Which is why he spent most of his time in Daemon's office. Granted it was also helping him learn how the pack runs, but still it was mostly because being around his mate calmed him down. When Daemon was near it was as if all his stress and anxiety just melted away.

Daemon sighed before answering him. "It is standard practice. We want all of the members of the pack to be extra careful when there rogues. Especially our Omega's and pups, as they can't defend themselves like the others can. Plus to be honest I just don't want my mate going out alone." He explained. The last part was more to himself though. It had been clear to Asami that Daemon was being a bit over protective to which he nodded and plopped back down on the couch where he had been earlier. He was not complaining, but still being told not to leave made him a little upset. Sam must have seen the frustration on his face and came and plopped down beside him. "Don't take it personal. My sister is also an Omega. We do this to ensure that you are safe. Rogues don't care what rank you are or how old you are, they will try to abuse and kill anyone they see as weaker then them." Sam said reassuringly. "Plus after all the trouble you gave us Daemon is just a bit overprotective right now." Sam whispered to him, though everyone in the room heard him.

Asami sighed. "Just a bit? And I understand. I am just..." He started to say but Sam cut him off. "Not used to it. We know. You have spent most of you life hiding what you are and avoiding our kind. Now that you aren't hiding, it a whole new world." Asami couldn't agree with Sam more. This really has been like stepping into a new world. It was overwhelming and frustrating, confusing and also enlightening, as well as a whole host of other emotions. "I just want to keep you safe." Daemon said as he walked over to him. When Daemon's hand caressed his cheek he leaned into it seeking the comfort it brought. His mate's touch was calming. "I know. I am just overwhelmed by everything." He admitted honestly. "Is there anything else to report Sam?" Daemon asked as he continued to softly caress Asami's cheek.

"The only other thing was that we got a call from a Lone wolf. He is going to be passing through our territory and requested a weeks stay. He is mate hunting from what I understand." Sam informed him. Lone wolves are wolves that have voluntarily left their packs for one reason or another. Common reasons are looking for a mate, relocation or in some cases unsolvable differences with their current pack. However unlike rogues, they are on good standing with their original and welcomed in other packs. Of course there is also just wolves out there that just prefer solitude, hints the name Lone wolf. "So long as he comes and does the paperwork and nothing comes back against him with Pack Law. Then I have no problem with approving his request. Now if you all will excuse me I wish for some alone time with my mate." Daemon said to the group before swiftly picking Asami up and playfully tossing him over his shoulder.

Asami let out an unmanly squeak as Daemon playfully tossed him over his shoulder. Causing Sam and two enforcers, who he came to learn are twin bothers Malakai and Nikolai, to try and stifle laughs. He shot them a glare as he smacked Daemon's back to let him down. Of course his demands were ignored which made them laugh out right. With a sigh and a grumble about being able to walk on his own he gave up and just let Daemon have his fun. When Daemon finally let him down they were in their room. "You're an ass you know that?" Asami said as he playfully pushed him away, only to be pulled back against Daemon's chest. "Yes, but I am your ass." Before he could say anything back Daemon captured is lips in a passionate kiss.

By the time the kiss was over they were both panting softly. Asami's face was flush with both arousal and embarrassment. That was their first real kiss and not just a quick peck on the forehead. As if he wasn't embarrassed enough his stomach chose that exact moment to make his hunger known. "I'll take that as my cue to make us dinner." Daemon chuckled. All he could do is nod as he was far more embarrassed then before. He followed behind Daemon as he was lead to the kitchen. Once he was seated at the island Daemon began making them dinner. "Is chicken alright? Do you like spicy food?" Daemon asked as he started pulling things out of the fridge. "I do like chicken, but not overly spicy foods." He said as he opened the soda Daemon had set in front of him. "Define overly spicy?" Daemon asked as he started prepping vegetables. "I usually only made simple meals, but occasionally Mrs. Eller would make buffalo chicken which was great. Lame... I know." He said as he pretended to pick lint off his pants. "You are not lame." Daemon told him sternly before continuing making dinner.

Asami watched as Daemon cook and they held a pleasant conversation about the different types of food he liked. Turns out they both really liked sweet potatoes and watermelon. Daemon had been shocked to find out he had never had steak before and said he would make it tomorrow. "Any food allergies I need to be aware of?" Daemon asked while washing off the cutting board so he could start working on the chicken. "Not that I know of, but I don't like Brussels sprouts." Daemon chuckled. "No worries there. I don't like them either." Asami smiled at Daemon's honesty. Hearing his mate chuckle was amazing. He hadn't ever imagined that he would even be here in this situation with a mate wanting him. Loving him.

However he knew it was only a matter of time before Daemon circled back to the question from earlier that day. "So, um. You asked me earlier about after my parents kicked me out." He said, catching Daemon off guard. "I did, but if you don't want to I won't push it. I want you to be comfortable enough to want to tell me." Daemon said while looking Asami in the eyes. As he looked into his mate's eyes he tried to gather his thoughts. "It more of I don't know what to tell you." He fidgeted in his seat as Daemon nodded understandingly. "Would it help if I asked specific questions? Maybe help guide you? Plus you can ask me anything you want as well." Daemon asked after a moment of thought. He had just finished plating their food so Asami waited for Daemon to sit before answering. "Maybe, it would be easier I guess. I don't even know where to start to be honest." Again Daemon just gave him an understanding nod. They ate in comfortable silence as each one worked to get their thoughts and questions in order.
