Ana, was scared. Her wolf would not cooperate and she needed to shift. If not to stop all the pain from her bones breaking and reforming, then for Jax's sanity. He paced at the edge of the clearing hoping someone would come to his aide but no one came. All around he could hear a battle raging but he was loathe to leave Ana unprotected.

Inside her head turmoil was all the she could feel. Her wolf was powerful, and she was stubborn. The wolf spoke into her mind. "Let me help you, we can only exist if we agree. If you keep fighting me we will both die come morning." Ana retorted " I want to let you help but I'm scared! It hurts so badly, and.... I have fur! It's just too much to comprehend. These types of things don't happen in my world." The wolf finally understood what was holding Ana back. She would have to let Ana see the world through her eyes, or she would never let go of her past. And holding to the past was keeping her from shifting into the present.

As Ana began a new bout of panic the wolf relaxed a bit. It stopped trying to force Ana to complete the change, and let her have the reigns. Ana, transformed back into her human form. The pain eased and she lay breathing heavily on the ground. Her body and mind exhausted Ana could not even muster the strength to lift her head off of the ground. Just as she was about to sleep in the mist of all the chaos around her, the wolf sprang forth full throttle. And once she was completely changed she grabbed hold of Ana's psyche and ran with abandon as the battle raged around her.

Jax was not prepared for the shift that came over Ana. He was certain that Ana had won the battle against her wolf and would remain human for eternity. But, out of nowhere the wolf sprang free, and took off through the woods uninhibited by the battle raging around her. He followed as close as he could but Ana ran faster. She had speed that he had never seen before. He could hardly keep up with her. He shifted into his wolf and called to her wolf. The wail he sent forth stopped her in her tracks. She turned immediately and found her way back to him. As he looked upon her wolf he looked in her eyes. The wolf was in total control. There was no Ana staring back at him. She looked him over and sniffed around him. She was curious about the connection she felt for this wolf. Jax spoke into her mind. "Release her." "No!" She exclaimed. "If I release her then I will die. Her mind is not strong enough to withstand the transformation." Jax replied. "So then you die. But you cannot have her." Deep in her psyche Ana heard Jax speaking to the wolf. She was tired, but his voice warmed her inside and relaxed her troublesome mind. The wolf had tricked her. But as she took the back seat and watched as her wolf ran through the forest and saw the beauty surrounding her. Now all she wanted was Jax. She wanted him to hold her and tell her that everything would be all right. She began to plead with her wolf. "I will concede to let you live if you let me live. I promise to share my body and mind with you. Just please let me go back to him." Her wolf began to release her ever so slowly. As the wolf pulled back she found a spot in Ana's mind where she could reside peacefully. Mentally she allowed Ana to come forth while maintaining the wolf form. Jax began to relax as Ana appeared in the eyes of the wolf. "Run with me." He said. Delighted by his presence Ana took off through the woods with Jax fast on her heels. They ran to the river but were stopped by chanting witches. Ana's heckles were raised as she approached the little woman. She bounded forward snapping at the witches face. The witch lost her concentration and stopped chanting. The shroud of darkness the she carried with her began to recede. As she focused on Ana all of her sisters were being whisked away in retreat. But she no longer had her shroud connecting her to Natasha. She would be left behind. She would be a prisoner to the wolves. Jax and Ana contained the witch, barking and snapping in circles surrounding her. Rain began to pour but the witch would not relent. It was in those moments as Jax supported her emotionally with his strength, that Ana felt his wolf calling to her. Claiming her in an undeniable connection. It took all her strength to concentrate on the witch. When all she wanted to do was run with Jax.
