Ingredients:
Biscuits:
175g (1 1/4 cups) plain flour
1/2 tsp of bicarb soda
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cinamon
50g unsalted butter
90g (1/2 cup firmly packed) soft brown sugar
1 egg beaten- wash egg
2 tbsp golden syrupIcing (optional)
70g (1/2 cup) pure icing sugar, sifted
5 drops red liquid food colouring
5 drops green liquid food clouring
hudreds and thousands to decorateequipment:
2 large mixing bowls
sieve
wooden mixing spoon
measuring cups
measuring spoons
cookie cutters
knife
cup rolling pin glad wrapmethod:
1.preheat oven to 180oc
2.sieve the flour,spices and bicarb soda into a mixing bowl 3 times
3.chop the butter into pieces and rub with your hands into the flour
4.mix in the sugar
5.add the egg and syrup and mix into a dough. wrap the dough in gladwrap. the pop into the fridge for an hour (15mins)
6.clean workarea
7.take out dough from fridge.clean bench your top and dust with flour. roll your dough to about 1cm thick and cut your biscuits out. place on battered tray. roll your dough out and repeat 7th step again.
8.bake in oven for 10 minsor until brown. remove from oven. transfer to a rack to cool.
9.clean work area and prepare icng
10.place prepared icings(add food colouring to icing sugar) in small plastic bags. cut a very small hole in a corner of each bag. pipe icing over gingerbread men to decorate. finish with hundreds and thousands.
