Tyler's POV
"Ok but here me out we're bees..." I hear after Janie takes another drag of the joint being past around. The small group we were sitting with began to laugh because for some reason the thought of us being insects was top tier comedy. Normally I would have joined in on the "what if" conversation we were currently in the middle of but my mind was currently not involved whatsoever in the smoke sesh currently going down.
Instead my brain was focused on one individual that I've never seen before. She was sitting in the corner detached from all the chaos of the party and smiling down at a little cat who must have belonged to the sorority. I was pretty popular and new lots of people but her face was still unfamiliar. Something about it made my stomach twinge with nerves and I knew I would not be able to leave without finally introducing myself to this stranger.
"Janie come with me." My entrance was broken by Brett, Janie's boyfriend, grasping her shoulder which caused an uneasy feeling to pass over her face which I brushed off as her just being high. She got up and was guided out of the living room by the wrist and I took the opportunity to break the smoke circle and make my way over to where my eyes have been looking all night.
Zoe's POV
Why am I even here? Oh that's right! I'm a push over and Emily wanted to go to the party and needed a designated driver, so here I am. This position feels all too familiar, sitting in the corner with nothing but a cat. No hate on cats or anything but I would rather be in my bed watching shameless than here watching every single version of 'white girl club dances'.
It felt like decades of sitting on this musty ass carpet when my thoughts were finally interrupted.
"I see you've met mittens." I broke out of my hypnotic glance with a jolt as I slowly raised my eyes to see who the voice belonged to. My breath caught in my throat as my eyes met the greenest eyes I had ever seen. As I continued to absorb every detail of his face, I could feel my mind slowly being carried away until I remembered that he said something.
"Oh um... yea, is she yours?" I said trying to mentally calm myself down.
"Nope. Never even seen it before I just guessed the name. It's probably a stray." He said before sliding down next to me.
"I hope it's not a stray I've been petting it this whole party." Damn that sounded lame now he thinks I'm lame.
"I know...I mean I just saw...not in a creepy way just an observation..." he said quickly becoming flustered which made a giggle slip from my lips catching his attention.
"So you were observing me in a non creepy way." I say gaining more confidence after seeing him so flustered.
"Well when you say it like that it sounds weird... I just um... noticed you." He said now picking the carpet between his fingers.
"I'm Zoe it's nice to meet you." I say offering my hand hoping it wasn't sweaty. He took my hand and continued to shake it much longer than the traditional shake while repeating my name.
"Tyler" he said simply staring right into my eyes making my cheeks redden once again. "I haven't seen you around before." He said letting go of my hand leaving it feeling cold from the lack of contact.
"I don't really go to many parties. I got dragged here by a friend and then she ditched which reminds me why I avoid parties." I say looking back at Emily as she took shots off of some guy.
